That's the ice patch where I almost took a spill. Walking is pretty easy but on slippery winter ice it can be more challenging.
Anyways. At moms house it can be hard to stay indoors. Watching my mom's decline is hard. Watching her unable to do basic daily needs and seeing her in pain is hard. So I need to take a break and go for a walk on occasion.
Today's walk?
Flat.
But I walked to the Subway restaurant. Not because I needed Sandwich but because it was a different route than yesterday.
Started off on the main Street just outside my mom's house.
Yeah it was really quiet because it's Saturday on a long weekend so most stores are closed.
Continued to my nephew's workplace where the cute and tan hides.
The Subway was about a 20min walk on a quiet road.
Right beside the hotel
And yeah it is really really flat here. In the photo I think you can see part of the salt mine. The major industry in town... Besides wheat farming of course. With land this flat and this rich farms are huge here.
Now today my mom is hosting an Easter dinner. She isn't cooking. She goes someone to make the food and she ordered pies from the local bakery.
I walked to get the pies as it isn't far from my mom's house.
It is a cute little bakery with a lot of old memorobilia, places to sit and chat and lots of tasty treats.
Yes it is also proudly Canadian. I mention this because many Canadians are boycotting American products. Showing your roots is getting more important here. Especially in the heart of the country
When I picked up the pies I could only do two at a time. My mom ordered 4 so that means two trips.
I think that confused the lady behind the counter. I said it would pay for then, take two home then come back for the other two.
She laughed and said she would help me to the car. I said I walk walking and she was a little incredulous. The look on her face was like..."but no one walks".. but it did so I walked out, you the pies to my mom, came back and got the next two pies.
Sure it wasn't the most time efficient but realistically I still got everything done within 20 minutes so no big deal.
The Easter dinner went well with family and friends but it was hard on my mom.
Sitting at the table was painful for her
She wasn't able to bring the food to the table.
Getting to the table was challenging.
We had a great dinner but by the end my mom was hurting and exhausted.
Her words "I think my dinner hosting days are finished". Which is sad because she enjoys the family gatherings but she simply isn't able to do it anymore.
Although not a good thing to say that to her. She is fiercely independent.
And that's how I got my 9k + steps today.
Thanks for dropping by.
