I'm still at my mom's house and will be for another day before I hop in the rental car and go home.
What am I doing here? Tiny take that take me little effort but she simply can't do.
That's how I got my steps today
First my mom has a room that was totally filled with Christmas decorations. When Christmas was over she just took them downstairs and the them in the guest bedroom because she couldn't bend over to get them packed away.
This bedroom was stuffed with Christmas and my job was to move it into the garage and put it on some shelves.
Sure it was a few trips up and down the stairs but it wasn't exactly a difficult task for me.
Then she needed me to go to the bank and pay her Visa bill. Time to walk to the bank... 200 second. I timed it because it was very close. 3 minutes with the teller and Bill was paid.
Then she needed me to pay a bill she had with the local plumbing installer for her hot water tank. The store was literally across the street. I didn't bother timing because it was likely less than a dozen steps.
But it was a dozen steps my mom simply cannot take.
My mom also wanted me to walk to the drugstore and pick up a few items. That was a few more steps but not very far
And my mom wanted Chinese food so I walked to place then order, came home then returned 15 minutes later to pick it up. The restaurant was literally that close.
Still.. all those little trips helped me over the 5000 step minimum to post.
But it also reinforced my thought that my mom simply cannot be on her own any more as she simply cannot even do simple tasks. On that regard I called family and talked to friends about her moving to a more suitable living space with constant care.
I wish I didn't live 1600km away because two hours a day and I could clean her house, do her errands and make her life easier... But the 20 hour commute (and brutal gas prices) make that impossible by any standard.
But that was my day.
