With my wife on vacation a day is totally wasted unless she goes out and sees me things. Relax and sit by the pool only happens after exploration.
Unfortunately her sense of direction is awful and she hates doing anything by herself. Whether I want to or not I get to play tour guide and direct her to different things.
That is exactly what I did today. We had a quick breakfast at the hotel and then we walked and walked and walked.
17k steps and 4 hours later and I'm finally sitting by the pool to write this. Then she will have me navigate her to stores she wanted to visit earlier but they were closed because of mid afternoon siesta time.
First stop was the main bus station. Not because I needed to take a bus today but rather because I wanted to know its exact location when I need it in a weeks time to go back to the airport :)
No idea what this place was but it looked interesting and it was right across from the bus stop. Same with this fountain.
From there we walked to the port. Why the port? Well, I got a little off track. But still it added steps.
Well, not totally lost. I knew I had to go to a ferry stop on the beach somewhere and the port seemed reasonable but this pretty was for cruise ships. The Kon Tiki ship I needed to find was actually on this boardwalk.
We walked along. Saw the ferry we will take tomorrow and my wife wanted advance tickets... But they only do same day ones. So we kept on walking. My wife wanted to hit the casino so we went there.
She wanted to go inside but we got ID checked and they wouldn't accept our Canadian id. Result: denied.
Fine by me. So we kept walking. Now we were heading towards the castle
Not the big one which you can see in the background here.
But rather the non touristy one.
And along the way?
There was a triathlon. Made it a little interesting to cross the street :D but we made it eventually and I had to take a picture because Actifit is all about exercise, right :)
Continuing on we found a street market? Not entirely sure but there were vendors, live music in three places and lots and lots of people.
Then we just kept on walking to the castle. And there was a pretty steep incline. Nothing major but enough I noticed it.
And that was before all the stairs to get to the upper levels of the castle.
Now this castle was less impressive than Santa Barbara Castle the day before but it was still nice.
Mostly I found that there were nice city views.
And then we just kept on walking.
This time to Luceros which is a kind of square in Alicante.
Then we found a mall. My wife really wanted to shop but everything inside was closed for the afternoon.
So again we hit the streets. This time to go to the train station where we will get a train to Murcia in a couple of days.
Then to a thrift store where my wife found some clothes she liked. While she was shopping for clothes I was thinking: I really need a drink. Nearby there was a small grocery store and inside?
I found really cheap beer and for the first time in my life I kind of regretted not being the type to drink alcohol.. eventually I found an equally inexpensive diet cola.
I returned to my wife and she told me the store closed in 2 minutes at 3pm. Hahaha... That's one way to hurry up her shopping.
And then we walked back to the hotel.
Her words. "Let's go swimming" my thoughts. I'm having a rest. Almost 17k steps with virtually no sitting down? Yeah, I earned a rest... And a few minutes to make an Actifit post.
Thanks for joining me :)
