Whenever I like a song straight away I know I will grow tired of it. my favourite songs of all time are the ones that grow on me. and the same can be said about the bands I now love.
Another one of my favourite bands is the Smiths. But they are a band that had to grow on me for years. At first I didn't quite get them. Their lead singer Morrisey was the first front man who uses his voice as an instrument. It's unique to only him. Kind of choir like. But then put him with Johnny Marr a punk guitarist at heart but with outstanding jingly jangly melodies and one of the most underrated guitarists of all time in my opinion. You would think it was a recipe for disaster but somehow it bloody worked and it worked so well that their songs now resinate much better in todays world than they did in the late 80's and early 90's. The Smith's sung about many taboo's of the day including mental health and depression which was unheard of back then.
They also sung about bludgeoning someone to death.
I would go out tonight but I haven't got a stitch to wear. This man said "It's gruesome that someone so handsome should care"
Like Radiohead last week I could pick at least 20 songs to showcase including the most popular of their songs such as
"How Soon Is Now", "Ask", "There is a Light That Never Goes Out", "What Difference Does It Make", This Charming Man" which has probably the best intro ever to a song.
But I will go with my favourites
This Joke Isn't Funny Anymore.
This is the song where Johnny Marr and Morrisey really just gel. I'm a guitar man and I just love the guitar on this song. The solo kicks in at 2 minutes and it is just Johnny Marr at his best while Morrisey adds his vocals. It is just the perfect song in my opinion. I like going on Youtube seeing random people cover this one as everyone has their own opinion of the song but I always like the people that include the lead at the end. The thing about Johnny Marr is that little is more. He doesn't have to go off on a mad solo. Just repeats the same little riff and it just works while Morrisey does the work.
When you laugh about people who feel so
Very lonely
Their only desire is to die
Well, I'm afraid
It doesn't make me smile
I wish I could laugh
But that joke isn't funny anymore
It's too close to home
And it's too near the bone
It's too close to home
And it's too near the bone
More than you'll ever know ..
Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want
This song is 1 minute 52 seconds of sheer perfection. It's a beautiful song and it's one of the first songs I learned on guitar because it was easy. A timeless classic.

Good times for a change
See, the luck I've had
Can make a good man
Turn bad
So please, please, please
Let me, let me, let me
Let me get what I want
This time
Haven't had a dream in a long time
See, the life I've had
Can make a good man bad
So for once in my life
Let me get what I want
Lord knows, it would be the first time
Lord knows, it would be the first time
Asleep
This is a strange one as Marr is not in it but I love the melody of the piano and the song is pretty depressing but I do love the song so I decided it's going in as numero 3.
So these are my three songs for threetunetuesday. Oh I have one more dedicated to my new friend down in Portugal who wrote a post the other day about hugging a tree and she felt a little weird about doing it. If it makes you feel better then bloody do it, go for it. That's what i think. So I went out and hugged a tree myself today just for the craic and it wasn't a bad experience although there is sap all over me which is a pain. So I am glad I read your post
. This ones for you.

Thanks to for holding this initiative. The lucky bastard is down sunning his nipples off the coast of Africa. I hear he is like a bronze Adonis already.
