I always try to listen to music that has a beat that matches my tempo when running as I feel I try and keep up with the beat which in turn puts in a faster time and a better workout. The problem is my GYM or running taste in music is a whole lot different than my normal taste in music. I tend to go down the rap/ dance route with the running rather than the alternative sad songs I love so much. Now the running music presents me with a dilemma because I have never said the music is too class but it is what I listen to. So my Spotify playlist end of year bloody wrap up is always a bit funky and does not represent my main musical taste. I think Dead Maus was my most listened to artist last year for example so I was getting looks off some of the lads. But maybe it does represent my musical taste overall. It's a pickle. Spotify should have a incognito mode I thinks.
I find the Adidas, Nike playlists are a pile of rubbish. One or two songs are OK but there is nothing worse midrun trying to change the bloody playlist so I have adapted my own playlist accordingly. I have a few songs that I will name below as my ultimate tempo running tunes but I have to give special mention to an album I run to first which does fall into my alternative bracket. It's an Irish band as well that exploded onto the scene in 2019. They didn't get long to make it however as Covid hit but this made them release two more albums but it is their debut album which I run to. The album is called Dogrel from a Dublin band Fontaine DC. The Irish community on Hive will know of them. I recommend running to this album as it is high octane, drum smashing, punk which has a great beat to it.
The first three songs are loud and fast and it really gets me up that hill at the beginning. This is the second one called Sha la la. I just love the Dublin accent. Local punk/ rap bands are really becoming on trend lately and a good Dublin accent beats everything. Suits the music.
So when I am not listening to Dogrel I go down the dance and rap route. What better than if you put these together.
B.O.B by Outkast
This one starts at 100 miles per hour and actually keeps going at that pace which is good at the start of a run to get your pace up to a certain level and maintain it. I love the ending that keeps repeating as the tempo gets faster and you try to keep up.
Epic song to run to. I once remember Wayne Rooney saying this was the song he always listened to before a game. So no wonder he was pumped.
Greyhound - Swedish House Mafia
An oldie but a goodie. Again the ending to this one is excellent while the rest of the song stays on tempo. This song tells me whether I am fit or not as it is a good starter on the playlist. Typical dance song. This song keeps building and building and building until the old dance song orgasm like every hit back in the day and then it goes to sleep. Great for an uphill run.
MMM Naza.
Ah the aul French rap. I've always quite liked the French stuff. I look to what the likes of Paul Pogba is into. He may be shit at football but he knows his music and always has the best French stuff on his Instagram videos. I just shazam them and take for myself like a greedy trendy song stealer to stay en vogue.
So feel free to publicly heckle my running music. I'm a big boy. Beats running to Sweet Child Of Mine or Sweet Home Alabama. They would slow me down, not speed me up. A good aul pumping dance track you can set your clock by. I'll make no apologies about any of these songs.
Special mention to Khruagbin who have the best tempo drummer in the world. Great for a jog.
Have a listen to below. The drummer is ridiculous. 🤣. The comments. Bassist is easy on the eye as well.Overall just a talented group that fly under the radar.
So that's me done for this weeks Three Tune Tuesday. Thanks to for holding the event and putting up the prize money. I will match him whoever wins this week and give 1 HBI to the winner.
Cheers.
