If you have been following my blog at all, you should know what it means when you see this image pop up in your feed. If you don't, it is probably Friday, and I have another week of music listening that I am ready to share with you.
Things have really picked up a bit with the #whoareyoulisteningto tag over the past week or so. I have had more people participate in the initiative in the past seven days than I have in the past three months.
If you are the type of person who struggles to come up with content each week, this should be a no-brainer for you. All you have to do is write about the music you listened to through the past week and why you enjoy it. Share a couple of YouTube videos and boom, instant post!
I've got some really awesome stuff to share with you this week...
There is a really good chance you have never heard of Henry Lee Summer unless you were alive and not stoned out of your mind in the 80's. Actually, even if you were alive in the 80's, you still may have never heard of Henry.
This song was his only hit and after listening to some of his other stuff, I definitely think they picked the cream of the crop for his highest charting single (that I know of).
I will admit, the video is cheesy (it was the 80's after all), this song totally rocks. From the scream at the beginning to the gravelly voice and the forward rock beat it is just a fantastic song!
I would be lying if I said I only listened to this song once this week. It has probably been more like twenty by the time I write this and it will probably be at least ten more before the week is over.
I can't tell you how I learned about Bazzi. If I had to guess I probably finished listening to a Camila Cabello album and it played one of his songs based on my previous listening history.
I am so freaking glad they did. I will admit that some of his songs do sound pretty similar to each other and my biggest issue with the song "Mine" is that it is just too short. I am more than willing to overlook those two small things simply because his music is so good.
It's the kind of music that gets you bumping in your car or dancing in your kitchen. You simply can't not move to it. Plus he is from my home state of Michigan, so that makes him even more awesome!
Speaking of Camila Cabello... She is definitely one of my guilty pleasures. I know that a lot of people really got sick of hearing the song Havana over and over a Summer or two ago. Luckily I was listening to other stuff at the time and it didn't get over-played for me.
"Never be the Same" is probably my favorite song by her. It is another one of those songs that just gets me moving when I hear it. After the pre chorus stops and the actual chorus drops I can't help but nod my head. She is actually a really talented singer from what I can tell as well. More than just a flash in the pan auto-tune pop princess. That's just my opinion, give it a listen to form your own...
Finally, I am going to end with something that might be a surprise for some of you. It appears they have very long and successful career, but the first time I ever Manic Street Preachers was them doing a cover of one of my top twenty favorite songs of all time "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You".
Between their version, the original and the cover by Lauryn Hill it is hard to pick my favorite version.
If you aren't familiar with this band, they actually have albums that span decades with their more current stuff being pretty progressive and almost "edgy" compared to the song I shared above. I am sure or
could school me on some of the finer points about Manic Street Preachers. Be sure to check out the comments for their input!
I'm going to throw in a bonus track by them here. Autumnsong is a pretty awesome jam and it really reminds me of OAR if you have ever heard of them. If you haven't and you like what you hear, be sure to check out OAR. In fact, maybe I will have to listen to some OAR in the coming week!
That's all I've got for this week. I am heading off on an adventure soon, so bear with me if my posts are few or light on content in the coming weeks. I might give you some teasers for some bigger posts that are on the way.
If you have been listening to some really awesome music this past week, leave a comment and let me know about it. Better yet, write your own post about it and use the #whoareyoulisteningto tag!
