Hello, Hivers. Within the bands, groups or ensembles have always drawn attention to instruments with high frequencies, such as violin or guitar, which generally are the most striking instruments, but in this section of my blog, I will focus mostly on great bassists famous for their career or those new talents of these new times. The electric bass usually is not a very striking instrument for many, besides the great rockstars are always the guitarists or vocalists, but although it may not seem so, the bass and the bassist play an extremely important role, where in many cases the central axis of the musical themes is carried by the bass and usually those who create the bands are the bassists or are the producers. Known for his eccentric way of dressing and being on stage, "Bootsy Collins" is contradictorily a shy bass player who under that characteristic performance has managed to become an icon of Funk and electric bass for his contributions to the style and for always daring to do more in terms of the way he plays the instrument. In his beginnings his musical contributions with several artists and also for being part of the band that accompanied James Brown at the end of the 60's place him among those great bass players who were at the time of construction of several genres.

Dentro de las bandas, agrupaciones o ensambles siempre han llamado la atención los instrumentos con frecuencias altas, como el violín o la guitarra, que po lo general son los instrumentos más llamativos, pero en esta sección de mi blog, me centraré en su gran mayoría en grandes bajistas famosos por su trayectoria o esos nuevos talentos de estos nuevos tiempos. El bajo eléctrico por lo general no es un instrumento muy llamativo para muchos, además los grandes rockstar siempre son los guitarristas o vocalistas, pero aunque no lo parezca, el bajo y el bajista juegan un rol sumamente importante, donde en muchos casos el eje central de los temas musicales lo lleva el bajo y por lo general quienes crean las bandas son los bajistas o son los productores. Conocido por su forma excéntrica de vestir y de ser en los escenarios “Bootsy Collins” es contradictoriamente un tímido bajista que bajo esa performance tan característica ha logrado convertirse en un ícono del Funk y del bajo eléctrico por sus contribuciones en el estilo y por siempre atreverse a más en cuanto a la forma de ejecutar el instrumento. En sus comienzos sus aportes musicales con varios artistas y además por formar parte de la banda que acompañó a James Brown a finales de los 60´s lo colocan dentro de esos grandes bajistas que estuvieron en la época de construcción de varios géneros.
MUSICAL HISTORY
William Collins, better known as "Bootsy Collins" was born in Cincinnati - United States, is a bassist who as a child wanted to follow in the footsteps of his older brother and become a guitarist, but his interest was directed to the electric bass and good thing it was so, because his desire to create and his little fear of failure, led him to be an innovator of funk and to experiment new techniques enriching the genre. In his adolescence, he was part of a band with his older brother and what would eventually change Bootsy's life, since in the first steps of James Brown, this band would be the one that would accompany them for a few years. After their time with the mythical James Brown they were baptized as the "J.B's", this would leave a great friendship between them that over the years grew stronger and Brown always thanked the members of the band and especially Bootsy, for the contributions and the musical quality that they gave to his career. After that Bootsy formed other bands among them Parliament/Funkadeli together with George Clinton, making musical works and recording several albums. He was also part of other great artists and even produced his own solo works. Currently Bootsy is part of the music hall of fame.
William Collins, mejor conocido como “Bootsy Collins” nace en Cincinnati – Estados Unidos, es un bajista que de pequeño quiso seguir los pasos de su hermano mayor y convertirse en un guitarrista, pero su interés se vio dirigido al bajo eléctrico y que bueno que haya sido así, debido a que sus ganas de crear y su poco miedo al fracaso, lo llevaron a ser un innovador del funk y a experimentar nuevas técnicas enriqueciendo el género. En su adolescencia, formó parte de una banda en conjunto con su hermano mayor y lo que con el tiempo ocurriría cambiaría la vida de Bootsy, ya que en los primeros pasos de James Brown, esta banda sería la que los acompañaría por unos años. Luego de su paso por el mítico James Brown los bautizaron como los “J.B´s”, esto dejaría una gran amistad entre ellos que con los años se fortaleció y siempre Brown agradecía a los integrantes de la banda y en especial a Bootsy, por los aportes y la calidad musical que le imprimieron a la carrera de él. Luego de eso Bootsy formó otras bandas entre ellas Parliament/Funkadeli en conjunto con George Clinton, realizando trabajos musicales y grabando varios discos. Además formó parte de otros grandes artistas y hasta produjo sus trabajos en solitario. Actualmente Bootsy forma parte del salón de la fama de la música.
1. Techniques used by Bootsy Collins.
Bootsy, along with other bassists such as: Larry Graham and Louis Johnson, were the pioneers as far as technique is concerned, with respect to funk. The variety of harmonic and percussive resources that Bootsy gives to the bass are infinite, enriching funk in many ways and that is why this eccentric musician and bassist is and will be remembered forever.
Bootsy, en conjunto con otros bajistas como: Larry Graham y Louis Johnson, fueron los pioneros en lo que a técnica se refiere, respecto al funk. La variedad de recursos armónicos y percusivos que Bootsy le da al bajo son infinitos, logrando enriquecer el funk de muchas formas y es por esto que este excéntrico músico y bajista es y será recordado por siempre.
