On many occasions I have covered several bands with my electric bass and as a bass player, I have been asked which are the best bass players or the best known of the bands to which I do these reviews and covers, in this was born the idea of also talk a little of the member of the bands that may be ignored, which are the bass players; but although it seems arrogant to say it and more by a bass player himself, the bass plays an extremely important role in any group for the harmonic and melodic importance it represents. Master of masters, known for being one of the most sought after session bassists of our times, "Abraham Laboriel" has been a worldwide reference for his technique and for being part of a great number of recordings. In addition to this he has also served in recordings for movie themes, really talking about Abraham Laboriel is talking about one of the most recognized musicians and bassists of our times. Probably talking about him in this post is quite basic for the purposes of making a pleasant reading, but it is very likely that I will make other posts with certain characteristics of this bassist.

En muchas ocasiones he realizado cover de diversas bandas con mi bajo eléctrico y como bajista, me han preguntado cuales son los mejores bajistas o los más conocidos de las bandas al cual les hago estas reseñas y covers, en esto nace la idea de también hablarles un poco del miembro de las bandas que tal vez sea ignorado, que son los bajistas; pero aunque parezca arrogante decirlo y más por un propio bajista, el bajo juega un rol sumamente importante en cualquier agrupación por la importancia armónica y melódica que representa. Maestro de maestros, conocido por ser uno de los bajistas de sesión más buscados de nuestros tiempos “Abraham Laboriel” ha sido referencia a nivel mundial por su técnica y por formar parte de gran cantidad de grabaciones. Además de esta también ha servido en grabaciones para temas musicales de películas, realmente hablar de Abraham Laboriel es hablar de uno de los músicos y bajistas más reconocidos de nuestros tiempos. Probablemente hablar de él en este post sea bastante básico por los efectos de hacer una lectura agradable, pero es muy probable que realice otros post con ciertas características de este bajista.
MUSICAL HISTORY
"Abraham Laboriel" is a Mexican bass player born in 1947, incredibly respected in the music world, Laboriel began his music studies thanks to his father, who was also a guitarist, he laid the foundations as a musician and as a performer, teaching his first scales and notes on the guitar. At the age of 10 he was already making recordings for local bands in Mexico City, in his adolescence he performed as a musician and actor and during this time he got to know the electric bass which he became very interested in and managed to enter the Berklee School of Music in Boston, obtaining a Bachelor's degree in composition. While in college and in his last semesters of study he rubbed shoulders with great musicians and artists who called him for studio recordings and live performances, giving Laboriel the opportunity to work on what he loved most, which was music. Throughout his career he has participated in productions of great artists such as: Stevie Wonder, Hanson, Barbra Streisand, Al Jarreau, Billy Cobham, Dolly Parton, Elton John, Luis Miguel, Ray Charles, Madonna and a great number of musicians that to name them all would have to be done in another part to shorten information. What is certain is that this bassist and master has made more than 4000 recordings for various artists and soundtracks, a truly incredible career.
“Abraham Laboriel” es un bajista mexicano nacido en 1947, respetado increíblemente en el medio musical, Laboriel inició sus estudios de música gracias a su padre, quien también era guitarrista le sentó las bases como músico y como ejecutante, enseñando sus primeras escalas y notas en la guitarra. Apenas a los 10 años ya hacia grabaciones para bandas locales de la ciudad de México, en su adolescencia realiza actuaciones como músico y actor y en este tiempo va conociendo el bajo eléctrico el cual va tomando mucho interés y logra entrar a la Berklee School of Music en Boston, logrando el título de Licenciado en composición. Estando en la universidad ya a sus últimos semestres de estudio se codeó con grandes músicos y artistas quienes lo convocaron para grabaciones de estudio y presentaciones en vivo, dándole a Laboriel la oportunidad de trabajar en lo que más amaba, que era la música. A lo largo de su carrera ha participado en producciones de grandes artistas como: Stevie Wonder, Hanson, Barbra Streisand, Al Jarreau, Billy Cobham, Dolly Parton, Elton John, Luis Miguel, Ray Charles, Madonna y una gran cantidad de músicos que de nombrarlos todos habría que realizar otra parte para acortar información. Lo cierto es que este bajista y maestro ha logrado más de 4000 grabaciones para varios artistas y bandas sonoras, una carrera verdaderamente increíble.
1. Techniques used by Abraham Laboriel.
Technique, security, quality, he is a bassist who manages to make a precise readjustment of any bass line that has already been produced and give it a better finish. Among Laboriel's most used techniques is finger picking, with speed and a masterful ability to execute. Tapping and slapping are other techniques used by Abraham, which he also uses as constant resources and in some cases even hits on the bass as percussive resources.
Técnica, seguridad, calidad es un bajista que logra hacer un ajuste preciso de cualquier línea de bajo que ya haya sido producida y darle un mejor acabado. Entre las técnicas más usadas de Laboriel es a dedos, con velocidad y una magistral capacidad de ejecución. El tapping y slap es otras de las técnicas usadas por Abraham, que también usa como recursos constantes y en algunos casos hasta golpes en el bajo como recursos percusivos.
