Una vez más voy a hablar de J-pop. Aunque hay una discusión muy interesante al respecto de este tipo de clasificación, puesto que tanto en Japón como en el resto del mundo, el Pop es un género musical que puede estar refiriéndose a otros géneros musicales o una combinación de ellos. En algún momento, por ejemplo, el rock pudo haberse considerado música Pop. Pero bueno, no nos quedaremos en esto.
Lo anterior lo menciono porque la música en Japón es una mezcla de un montón de cosas con resultados supergeniales. En este caso, Deal with the Devil (Trato con el Diablo) de la cantante nipona Tia - para los hispanohablantes puede ser algo curioso, pero sí, ese es su nombre- es una de las canciones que más me han sorprendido gratamente.

Once again I am going to talk about J-pop. Although there is a very interesting discussion about this kind of classification since in Japan, as well as in the rest of the world, Pop is a musical genre that may be referring to other musical genres or a combination of them. At some point, for example, rock could have been considered Pop music. But well, let's not dwell on this.
I mention the above because music in Japan is a mix of a lot of things with super cool results. In this case, Deal with the Devil by the Japanese singer Tia -for Spanish speakers it may be something curious, but yes, that's her name- is one of the songs that have pleasantly surprised me the most.
Este tema fue usado como el primer opening de la serie anime Kakegurui (Jugadora compulsiva u Obsesionada por el juego, dependiendo de la interpretación). Cuya trama va del el ingreso de Yumeko Jabami a una escuela privada donde el progreso se dicta no por las habilidades deportivas o académicas, sino por la habilidad con el juego. Un ambiente lleno de apuestas, prestigio y riquezas, pero también de miedo, desesperación y locura. Un caos en el que Yumeko parece encajar bastante bien o, incluso, mejor que cualquiera.
De modo que solo con el título de la canción ya tenemos un buen punto de partida.
This song was used as the first opening of the anime series Kakegurui (Compulsive Gambler or Obsessed by the Game, depending on the interpretation). Whose plot is about Yumeko Jabami's entrance to a private school where progress is dictated not by sports or academic skills, but by the ability to game. An environment that is full of bets, prestige, and riches, but also of fear, despair, and madness. Chaos in which Yumeko seems to fit in quite well, or even better than anyone else.
So just with the title of the song we already have a good starting point.
Es bastante común el desarrollo de un comportamiento compulsivo con las apuestas, lo que lleva a quienes no pueden dejar de jugar a grandes pérdidas o situaciones muy riesgosas.
Y aquí entramos en su segundo punto a favor. Para el estilo, Tia decidió decantarse por el jazz en su forma más movida y enérgica, el bebop. La velocidad, cambios de tonalidad y potencia de toda la canción emula la vida de un apostador. Siempre expuesto a la emoción, el riesgo y los placeres más peligrosos.
Pero es bastante interesante, porque por momentos empieza a adoptar un aire medio rock-punk. De modo que con el walking bass también podemos terminar escuchando un solo de guitarra eléctrica muy potente.

But it's also interesting because at times it starts to take on a half rock-punk feel. So with the walking bass, we can also end up listening to a very powerful electric guitar solo.

Con Deal with the Devil, Tia hace una analogía entre el mundo de las apuestas con el amor. En el que el oponente intenta introducirse en la mente de su contrincante, de revelar sus secretos y apoderarse de todo lo que posee. Con una voz a la vez inocente y seductora, nos pone en aprietos, confundiéndonos y derribando todas nuestras defensas.
