Saturday night was a super special night for and I as we put on our MobeyDick hats and enjoyed the heck out of this fantastic initiative! It has grown exponentially from just a handful of people to booking out an entire venue, through no advertisement! Just word of mouth alone.
This has meant that not only does Andy have better control over who performs, but who listens as well, because, without a great audience, you have no show.
This evening featured seasoned artists like Matt Roux and Rae and the Ridiculous Rebels, as well as us, MobeyDick, Martin Procheska who is left handed by the way! This means he plays the guitar and has to string it completely backwards so that he can play. He has adapted his sound, his playing and his original compositions accordingly and listening to him is just such a pleasure each time!
We never know what to expect as the shows are always carefully put together without the lineup being released until the last minute! It's kind of cool to be one of the cool kids :p It also mean, as I said above, that we have better control of the audience, so instead of just having people wonder in off the street, we are treated to a room filled with friends and family who know how to provide a "listening" audience, which is SO important for any musician, but especially new artists who are performing with us for the first time. No one wants to perform for an empty room, physically or hypothetically. And Saturday night's support was definitely full of excitement and involvement and all of us really got a chance to enjoy ourselves!
We are so appreciative of our incredible hosts, Reload Flamingo Vlei, Any Mercer and Joy Mercer for putting this evening together and to Matt Roux for making all the sound magic happen!
We also got a chance to finally have all our kids enjoy the show and it was a first time for Matthew, to see his mommy perform live! Here's to many more!
Thank you, as always, to my precious partner, for the fantastic footage which I will be sharing with you all as the week goes by and I manage to get through the pile of editing!
