Andy's Club was created by Andy and Matt Roux as an initiative to support local songwriters and performers in the West Coast area of Cape Town. Most opportunities for this kind of experience, only exist in the "Deep South." Andy's Club is trying to change that and get talented musicians and great venues on board, as well as to attract a unique kind of audience - almost hand picked by the organizers. An evening like this relies on good music, sure, but it means nothing without an audience - especially the right audience. On this evening we were certainly spoilt with a wonderful group of listeners and we filled the venue to capacity. We must be doing something right!
I made a post last week, selecting a few performances from us and the other performers of the evening, but this post consists of our songs only. We have to show off a bit :p
MobeyDick Every - Friday Night
This is 's Teenage Angst song and has become a firm favorite among our listeners across the board. I love it so much as it allows us to interact with the crowd and get our audience involved in the song and even get them dancing!
MobeyDick -Wicked Game (Cover) Chris Isaak
This is one of our more recent covers that we've added to our repertoire. Although we like to perform mostly originals, we've decided, especially for Andy's club, that a ratio of 70/30 originals to covers is good to keep the audience engaged.
This one kind of just slipped in on us while we were fooling around and jamming for Skybar in Hermanus last year, and it just stuck.
It's such a beautiful and soulful song... it's deeply emotional and almost painful to sing. I hope we do it justice. It's a privilege to cover it. That's for sure.
MobeyDick - God Cries in Thunder
An anti-war protest song, written by , God Cries is a song we've been singing since the start of MobeyDick - and probably longer for Jasper.
It's always relevant because humanity seems to thrive on war. There's always one somewhere.
It's deeply saddening, the cost of human lives, the atrocities, the decimation of homes and countries...
War is never the answer.... and yet we keep falling into it's clutches.
