This is my first post in the Music community and the first ever kalimba cover I made on Hive. Okay, I am a kalimba noob, so please don't expect a spectacular song cover here. My daughter and I had the idea of learning kalimba when the world shut down during the pandemic. With nothing much to do at home during the lockdown, we thought learning a musical instrument was a good idea. There are many musical instruments we could pick, but why kalimba? Because it was the easiest to learn!
I haven't practiced in a long time, and it shows. To be honest, I only learned to play a couple of songs. I should practice more and memorize the keys, so I don't have to refer to my notebook. Anyway, it's not that I am planning to go pro; it is just for fun 😃.
Here's what my kalimba look like. This is a 17-note kalimba. As you can see, I attached stickers on the tines, making it easier to memorize their locations.
It comes with a cute bag to store my kalimba.
And a small hammer that is use to tune the kalimba. Yup, you have to knock on the tines to tune them up. I used a tuner app to achieve the correct tune.
It can be hard to play the kalimba with short thumbnails as I do. I think using a kalimba pik would greatly enhance the playing experience. Maybe I should consider getting one to practice more without injuring my nails.
And here's basic my sheet music I made myself. I don't know how to read musical notes and this is the simplest one I can understand. The numbers are referring to the notes on the tines.
And here is the song cover. I considered uploading this to ThreeSpeak but I was having some technical issue with the site and decided to use Youtube instead.
Can You See My Heart is a Korean song by Heize (Jang Da-Hye). I don't speak Korean but I think it's about unrequited love. Here's the piano instrumental and the actual song can be viewed here. It is a very beautiful and sad song. I highly recommend you to watch the video to appreciate the beauty of the song ❤️
That's it for now. If you read this far, thank you. I appreciate it so much! Kindly give me a follow if you like my content. I mostly write about making art, life musing, and our mundane yet charming family life here in Klang Valley, Malaysia.
