CWH Crew Holds Austin in our Hearts with This Week's #ttt ✨💿
Music helps us celebrate the good times and helps us cope with the bad times. There's a lot going on in the world right now, so for this Three Tune Tuesday we're heading to Austin, Texas, the "Live Music Capital of the World."🎸
Texas is the home state to CWH Hosts and
, so we've chosen music with deep Austin roots. We'll kick things off with 13th Floor Elevators, then salute our Texan goddess, Janis Joplin, and wind things up with that "li'l ol' band from Texas," ZZ Top.
We hope you enjoy these tracks, presented just as we streamed them during CWH Live Sessions today. We're holding a little extra space in our hearts for West Sixth Street and all those impacted by the violence there over the weekend. Live music is what Austin gives the world, so today we send love back their way 💔 🔙 ❤️.
1. "You're Gonna Miss Me" (1966) by 13th Floor Elevators
Two decades before Austin became known as the "Live Music Capital of the World," a band was formed called the 13th Floor Elevators, which recorded one of the first true psychedelic singles, right there in the Texas capital. This was back when the Grateful Dead still went by the moniker The Warlocks and it was pretty much at the same time that the sound became associated with San Francisco.
2. "Piece of My Heart" (1968) by Janis Joplin
As a University of Texas student, Janis Joplin played folk and blues around campus and off including coffeehouses, hole-in-the-wall restaurants and small clubs in what was a much smaller entertainment scene than what Austin offers today. Then it was quite the conservative place, a town too small for the likes of Janis. Here is her Woodstock version of "Piece of My Heart" from the Summer of '69.
3. "La Grange" (1973) by ZZ Top
ZZ Top is a Houston band that got a ton of exposure on the stages of Austin, which by 1973 was accepted as a cross-roads of blues, swing, country, and rock. Travis county venues served as amplifiers for the sound that brought us a helluva Texas swagger.

Kudos 🎉 to Three Tune Tuesday founder for his music-sharing initiative on Hive. Started at about the same time as CWH, he runs and sponsors it as a weekly event where Hive friends can share three songs in a post. To take part, simply include the tag #ttt or #threetunetuesday and give a head's up to
so he sees your post.
