Happy Tuesday! Joining the #TTT or #ThreeTuneTuesdayš¤š», thanks to for coming up with this amazing idea.
Itās been a while since I last listened to Fifth Harmony, and revisiting their songs felt so nostalgic. I used to be a Harmonizer back in college, especially when they were at their peak. Their music was a huge part of my playlist back then.
Fifth Harmony was formed during the second season of their The X Factor USA days, and even though I was rooting for them as solo artists at first, I instantly became a fan when they were put together as a group. Lauren, Camila, Dinah, Ally, and Normani just worked so well together.
Their first single, āMiss Movinā On,ā came out in 2013 under their debut album Better Together. I honestly canāt believe itās been that long already š I feel sooo old!
Their songs are close to my heart because I actually used some of them in one of my Literature papers in college. We analyzed the lyrics, especially the feminist themes. Their music always felt empowering. They really reminded me of the Destiny's Child.
When Camila Cabello left the group in 2016, I remember feeling sad. Fifth Harmony felt different without her, though I know many felt the other members stood out more after she left. Personally, Iāve always loved Laurenās voice and presence. Eventually, in 2018, the rest of the group also decided to go solo, and that was the end of the group as we knew it.
Recently, I found myself listening to their songs again. I thought why not feature them for this weekās Three Tune Tuesday! These tracks still bring back so many memories. Hope you enjoy this little throwback š
š¶ Reflection
Why you think I'm puttin' on my favorite perfume?
Why you think this dress so tight that I could barely move?
Why you think I'm dancin' in these uncomfortable shoes?
I did it all, I did it all, I did it all for you
āReflectionā is the ninth track from their album Reflection, and this was during the era when all five members were still together.
What I love about this song is how it plays with expectations. At first, it sounds like theyāre trying to impress someone else but by the end, you realize theyāre doing it all for themselves. Itās such a strong self-empowerment moment, and that theme shows up in so many of their songs.
If you havenāt seen it in a while, their 2015 performance of āReflectionā is still worth a watch.
š¶ Work From Home
You don't gotta go to work
Work, work, work, work, work, work
But you gotta put in work
Work, work, work, work, work, work
You don't gotta go to work
Work, work, work, work, work, work
Let my body do the work
Work, work, work, work, work, work
āWork From Home,ā featuring Ty Dolla $ign, was released in 2016 as part of their album 7/27. it is named after the date the group was formed. This was also the last album they released with Camila Cabello.
This is easily one of their most recognizable songs. Super catchy, repetitive, and perfect as background music when you're feeling productive. I used to play this while doing schoolwork in college and somehow it made everything feel a little less stressful. Good times!
š¶ That's My Girl
Destiny said it: You gotta get up and get it
Get mad independent, and do-don't you ever forget it
Got some dirt on your shoulder? Then let me brush it off for ya
If you're feeling me, put your five high, that's my girl
That's My Girl was released in 2016 as well as part of their 7/27 album. For me, āThatās My Girlā is their ultimate empowerment song. Itās all about being independent, staying strong, and having your own back while also lifting other women up. Itās bold, uplifting, and still gives me that confidence boost every time I hear it!
