Anne Clark – Poetess of Darkness
I've just dived into the 80s synth-wave rabbit hole and stumbled upon Anne Clark – this London born Brit from 1960 who shakes up the scene with her poetic lyrics and dark beats.
She kicked off in 1982 with "The Sitting Room", mixing samples and acoustic sounds with spoken poetry before it was even trendy. Hits like "Our Darkness" and "Sleeper in Metropolis" became proto-house and industrial milestones, even sampled by Benny Benassi – ironic, right?

After over 40 years, she's still touring, especially in Germany her fan haven, sounding fresh despite life's punches.
Have a great day everybody
listen to "other" music
and let us travel the world again
Picture this moment: you're in a smoky 80s club somewhere in Europe, rain pounding outside like a noir flick, and Anne Clark whispers her words right into your soul – about missed chances, urban nightmares, and fighting the machine. Her collabs with David Harrow and John Foxx were game-changers, earning cult status but beef with label bosses like Richard Branson who botched her US breakthrough.
Black humor twist: in a world of posers, she's the real rebel shredding souls with spoken word – I love it, hits like my own city hangovers. Cheers with a beer to her!
