Welcome to a new installment of this series. This time I will talk a little about the Zulian dance. I do not pretend to be a deep analysis of these genres, I just give myself the task of giving you a brief information about them. Everything that can be said about the musical genres of Venezuela, and I imagine that of other regions as well, are hypotheses, since the origins of these genres cannot be known for certain, one can have an approach to the truth according to their own investigations and those of ethnomusicologists dedicated to these matters. The intention of these articles is to make known these beautiful genres of Venezuelan music, many of them fallen into disuse, we must try to keep them always in force through all the diffusion that can be done.
Regarding the Zulian dance, it is believed that it arrived from Cuba through the port of Maracaibo, having a similarity with the Cuban habanera. It can be written in 2/4 or 6/8 time, it is a syncopated rhythm less marked than the Venezuelan merengue, the Zulians have always been very regionalist and say that this genre is difficult to interpret and only those born in Zulia can play it as it is.
