Hola amigos || Hello friends
Es cierto que, en mis anteriores publicaciones referente a este Título, han sido más inclinado al rock y su historia. Pero la música no es un solo género y, además, no son los únicos que han dejado canciones que siguen sonando y son importantes para este universo musical. También existen o existieron cantantes que han logrado dejar una inmensa huella y un gran legado en este mundo. En esta oportunidad, quiero hablarles de tres cantantes venezolanos y sus tres canciones que sin duda han dejado el nombre de Venezuela en alto logrando tener un gran éxito no solo nacional si no también, internacional. Aún con la competencia tan descomunal que existía y existe, los músicos venezolanos no se han limitados y han logrado conseguir grandes triunfos en sus carreras.
It is true that, in my previous publications concerning this Title, they have been more inclined to rock and its history. But music is not a single genre and, moreover, they are not the only ones who have left songs that are still playing and are important for this musical universe. There are or were also singers who have managed to leave an immense mark and a great legacy in this world. In this opportunity, I want to talk to you about three Venezuelan singers and their three songs that have undoubtedly left the name of Venezuela on high, achieving great success not only nationally but also internationally. Even with the enormous competition that existed and still exists, Venezuelan musicians have not limited themselves and have managed to achieve great success in their careers.
Originalmente la música venezolana como en la mayoría de países ha sido de gran importancia para su cultura como por ejemplo Venezuela y su Joropo, Republica Dominicana con su Merengue, o Brasil con su Samba o ese sabroso Bossa nova. Luego viene el pop o el rock quienes también tienen ese toque que identifica sus raíces. Así, sin duda, podemos notar que la música es un inmenso universo, un mundo diferente al nuestro.
Originally Venezuelan music as in most countries has been of great importance for its culture, for example Venezuela and its Joropo, the Dominican Republic with its Merengue, or Brazil with its Samba or that tasty Bossa nova. Then comes pop or rock who also have that touch that identifies their roots. So, without a doubt, we can see that music is an immense universe, a world different from our own.
Casualmente buscaba esas tres canciones nuevas de que hablar, pero se me fueron asomando por decirlo así, cantantes, no bandas. Pero cantantes que han sido influencias en el mundo musical. Compositores, productores, músicos que lograron con sus canciones cambiar al mundo. Y créanme, fue por casualidad que los cantantes mencionados hoy aquí, sean venezolanos. Por supuesto, sorprendido y orgulloso de que ellos obtuvieran por su trabajo el mérito que se merecen. Quiero empezar esta reseña musical casualmente con un hombre que simplemente llevo a un nivel más alto la música venezolana. Un hombre que no solo fue compositor, poeta, humorista y caricaturista. Este hombre es hoy, una leyenda, un símbolo venezolano. Hablo del gran Simón Diaz.
By chance I was looking for those three new songs to talk about, but I kept coming across singers, not bands, so to speak. But singers who have been influences in the musical world. Composers, producers, musicians who managed to change the world with their songs. And believe me, it was by chance that the singers mentioned here today are Venezuelan. Of course, surprised and proud that they got for their work the merit they deserve. I want to start this musical review by chance with a man who simply took Venezuelan music to a higher level. A man who was not only a composer, poet, humorist and caricaturist. This man is today, a legend, a Venezuelan symbol. I am talking about the great Simón Diaz.
Con su extraña manera de cantar, esas mágicas composiciones y ese particular ritmo llanero, Simón Diaz recorrió gran parte de este mundo llevando la música venezolana, su música hacer reconocida más allá de sus fronteras. Simón, creo una de las obras llaneras que ha sido interpretada por infinidades de artistas, una canción que representa y podríamos decir, es el segundo himno venezolano. Todo empezó por allá por 1980 cuando nace lo que conocemos como el Contrapunteo el cual se basa en un duelo de versos. Y cuenta Tio Simón que esta canción nace en una noche de contrapunteo defendiendo el amor de una mujer que le acompañaba. Él luego de esa noche, reconstruyó algunos de esos versos y escribiendo con ellos, la canción que lo inmortalizaría, Cabello viejo.
With his strange way of singing, those magical compositions and that particular llanero rhythm, Simón Diaz travelled a great part of this world taking Venezuelan music, his music to be recognised beyond its borders. Simón created one of the llanero songs that has been interpreted by an infinite number of artists, a song that represents and we could say, is the second Venezuelan hymn. It all started back in 1980 when what we know as the Contrapunteo was born, which is based on a duel of verses. Tio Simón says that this song was born in a night of contrapunteo defending the love of a woman who accompanied him. After that night, he reconstructed some of those verses and wrote with them, the song that would immortalize him, Cabello viejo.
Hubo otra gran canción que llegó a recorrer gran parte de este globo terrestre. Una canción que habla del valor que a veces ignoramos de la familia y aquella responsabilidad que conlleva tener un hijo. Con esta canción el compositor logró abrir los ojos de aquellos padres que se encontraban descarrilados por así decirlo. ¨ No basta con llevarlos a la escuela a que aprendan porque la vida cada vez es más dura¨ claro mensaje que hizo que esta canción sea recordada como un clásico musical. Esta obra logró conseguirle el Premio Billboard como mejor sencillo en 1991 durante seis semanas siendo un récord para un venezolano. Franco fue uno de los artistas más populares del pop en Venezuela. No basta es y será una de las mejores canciones escrita en la historia del pop venezolano.
There was another great song that travelled across much of the globe. A song that speaks of the value we sometimes ignore of family and the responsibility that comes with having a child. With this song the composer managed to open the eyes of those parents who were derailed so to speak. It is not enough to bring them into the world because it is obligatory, because they are the basis of marriage or because you made a mistake in the account", a clear message that made this song to be remembered as a musical classic. This work managed to win him the Billboard Award for best single in 1991 for six weeks, a record for a Venezuelan. Franco was one of the most popular pop artists in Venezuela. No basta is and will be one of the best songs written in the history of Venezuelan pop.
Otro icono venezolano, y este para cerrar esta reseña semanal, les hablaré de un cantante y compositor que por mucho tiempo fue una buena influencia musical. Para este excelente artista, cantar y componer, dice que es un trabajo fascinante. Creo que la música de Chester ha logrado que muchos nos encontremos por medio de sus letras. Ciertamente Ilan no fue una artista con una trayectoria muy grande en comparación con los anteriores artistas mencionados y a lo mejor me equivoco en colocarlo en esta lista, pero creo que por el duro recorrido que tuvo este artista, se merece ser nombrando y recodado por siempre. Another Venezuelan icon, and to close this weekly review, I will tell you about a singer and composer who for a long time was a good musical influence. For this excellent artist, singing and composing, he says, is a fascinating job. I believe that Chester's music has made it possible for many of us to find ourselves through his lyrics. Certainly Ilan was not an artist with a very long career compared to the previous artists mentioned and maybe I am wrong in placing him on this list, but I think that for the hard journey that this artist had, he deserves to be named and remembered forever. Who doesn't remember Cerro Avila or Eres una en un millón?
Este no ha sido el vieje del que estamos acostumbrado, pero no esta mal variar y de alguna forma recordar los grandes artistas venezolanos que han llevado nuestra bandera a muchos mas rincones de este planeta terrestre. Igual espero que haya sido un viaje al pasado no tan lejano de la música y sus compositores venezolanos.
This has not been the oldie we are used to, but it is not bad to have a change and somehow remember the great Venezuelan artists who have carried our flag to many more corners of this terrestrial planet. I hope it has been a trip to the not so distant past of Venezuelan music and its composers.
