En el día de hoy les voy a hablar de un álbum que se publicó el 24 de julio del 2020 y salvo mi cuarentena (y mi año también).
Les estoy hablando de Folklore de Taylor Swift. Su octavo álbum de estudio.
Today I'm going to tell you about an album that was released on July 24, 2020 and saved my quarantine (and my year too).
I'm talking about Folklore by Taylor Swift. Her eighth studio album.

Historia - History
Taylor escribió las canciones de Folklore en cuarentena mientras estaba aburrida. Quien pudiera, yo en cuarentena lo único que hice fue leer, ver series, estresarme y preocuparme, la cosa sana.
Taylor wrote the Folklore songs in quarantine while she was bored. Who could, in quarantine all I did was read, watch series, stress and worry, the healthy stuff.
Este álbum fue lanzado de sorpresa, nadie se esperaba que Taylor lanzará uno, y mucho menos en esas circunstancias, pero un jueves 23 de julio de 2020 nos sorprendió en plena mañana posteando la portada y los visuales, contándonos de qué iba y, como si fuera poco, se estrenaba esa misma noche e iba con single y vídeo incluido. Esta noticia para sus fanáticos nos dejó shockeados y al borde del colapso, pero mega felices de que íbamos a tener canciones nuevas para descubrir.
This album was released as a surprise, no one expected Taylor to release one, much less under those circumstances, but on Thursday July 23rd, 2020 she surprised us in the middle of the morning by posting the cover and visuals, telling us what it was about and, as if that wasn't enough, it was released that same night and it came with a single and video included. This news for their fans left us shocked and on the verge of collapse, but mega happy that we were going to have new songs to discover.

I try to recall what I felt that day and now it is a little difficult to put into words. It was definitely what I needed in this new world full of chaos and uncertainty, something to anchor me, distract me and allow me to be happy for a little while.
El álbum cuenta con 17 canciones que tratan sobre varios temas relacionados con personajes ficticios y un triángulo amoroso; también sobre su vida, su relación amorosa, su infancia, la pérdida de sus Máster y una canción dedicada a su abuelo; otras que tratan sobre perderse y encontrarse, estar haciendo tu mayor esfuerzo aunque no lo parezca y tratar de ser tu mejor versión para poder brillar.
The album has 17 songs that deal with various topics related to fictional characters and a love triangle; also about her life, her love relationship, her childhood, the loss of her Masters and a song dedicated to her grandfather; others that deal with getting lost and finding yourself, being doing your best even if it doesn't seem like it and trying to be your best version in order to shine.
Ahora, a 2 años de su lanzamiento, no les voy a hablar de cada una de ellas porque sino quedaría muy extenso y no quiero aburrirlos con mi fanatismo. Así que hice una selección de mis cinco canciones favoritas sobre este álbum, sin ningún tipo de orden en específico.
Now, 2 years after its release, I'm not going to talk about each one of them because it would be too long and I don't want to bore you with my fanaticism. So I made a selection of my five favorite songs on this album, without any specific order.

Análisis personal - Personal analysis
Empezaré con The 1
I will start with The 1.
Esta canción es la que abre el álbum y trata sobre los típicos "que hubiera pasado sí...". Apunta hacía la pérdida de un amor, ¿pero se hubiera podido salvar si alguna cosa hubiera sucedido de otra forma? Nunca lo sabremos y por eso es un tema con un simbolismo que golpea en ese punto.
This song is the opening track of the album and is about the typical "what if...". It points to the loss of a love, but could it have been saved if something had happened differently? We'll never know and that's why it's a song with a symbolism that hits at that point.
La melodía es bellísima, tranquila, pero potente; acompaña muy bien a la letra de la canción. En mi opinión es una muy buena elección de apertura.
The melody is beautiful, quiet, but powerful; it accompanies the lyrics of the song very well. In my opinion it is a very good opening choice.
Frases como "pero hubiera sido divertido si hubieras sido el indicado" o "yo persisto y resisto la tentación de preguntarte si una cosa hubiera sido diferente, ¿sería todo diferente hoy?", representan muy bien el sentimiento de la canción.
Phrases such as "But it would've been fun if you would've been the one" or "I persist and resist the temptation to ask you if one thing had been different, would everything be different today?", represent the feeling of the song very well.

Esta es la segunda canción del álbum, pero es la primera que escuche porque fue el single y primero vi el vídeo antes de escuchar todo el disco.
This is the second song on the album, but it's the first one I listened to because it was the single and I first saw the video before listening to the whole album.
No soy muy buena en captar qué dicen las letras en inglés la primera vez que las escucho, pero mientras veía el vídeo hubo una parte de la canción que me dio ganas de llorar y supe el porqué una vez que leí la letra en español.
I'm not very good at picking up on what English lyrics say the first time I hear them, but while watching the video there was one part of the song that made me want to cry and I knew why once I read the Spanish lyrics.
La canción es la primera del triángulo amoroso, en ella conocemos el punto de vista de "Betty" que fue engañada por su novio en la adolescencia, pero de alguna forma están juntos en el presente. Se puede percibir la tristeza y melancolía en la canción y lo mucho que Betty amaba a James, lo dolida que quedó, pero en el fondo sabía que intentaría arreglar las cosas.
The song is the first of the love triangle, in it we know the point of view of "Betty" who was cheated on by her boyfriend in adolescence, but somehow they are together in the present. You can sense the sadness and melancholy in the song and how much Betty loved James, how hurt she was, but deep down she knew she would try to make things right.
La parte de la canción que me hizo dar ganas de llorar es una que dice "intente cambiar el final de Peter perdiendo a Wendy", haciendo referencia a su relación y a la historia de Peter Pan. Sabemos que Wendy no quiso quedarse con Peter en el país de Nunca Jamás. Pero parece que Betty se inclinó por sí quedarse.
The part of the song that made me want to cry is one that says "Tried to change the ending, Peter losing Wendy" referring to their relationship and the story of Peter Pan. We know that Wendy didn't want to stay with Peter in Neverland. But it seems that Betty was inclined to stay.
El vídeo es muy representativo del país de Nunca Jamás y la parte de ella naufragando agarrada al piano es simbólica de que la música te salva. Amé completamente el concepto.
The video is very representative of Neverland and the part of her being shipwrecked clutching the piano is symbolic of music saving you. I absolutely loved the concept.
La siguiente canción elegida es My Tears Ricochet. La quinta del álbum. Desde siempre Taylor pone sus canciones más vulnerables en esta posición. En general son temas que la atraviesan de alguna manera.

En esta ocasión la letra nos habla de la traición que sufrió por parte de Scott Borchetta, su ex mánager de la antigua discográfica, a quién también consideraba un amigo. Él Uso lo que sabía que le dolía y arremetió contra ella. Además le vendió años de su trabajo a una persona que la lastimo.
This time the lyrics tell us about the betrayal she suffered from Scott Borchetta, her former manager at her old label, whom she also considered a friend. He used what he knew hurt her and lashed out at her. He also sold years of her work to a person who hurt her.
La melodía es como una canción de cuna, el ritmo es lento y melancólico. Una parte de la letra que me gusta es la que dice que puede ir a cualquier parte que desee menos a casa y que en las noches dónde él no puede dormir seguro se pone a escuchar sus canciones de cuna robadas.
The melody is like a lullaby, the rhythm is slow and melancholy. One part of the lyrics that I like is the one that says that he can go anywhere he wants but home and that on nights where he can't sleep he is sure to listen to his stolen lullabies.
Otra canción que me gusta mucho del álbum es August, la octava del disco.

August es otra canción que pertenece al triángulo amoroso. En esta ocasión nos cuenta el punto de vista de Augustine, la otra chica con la que James engaño a Betty (si recuerdan que les hable de Betty en Cardigan).
August is another song that belongs to the love triangle. This time it tells us the point of view of Augustine, the other girl with whom James cheated on Betty (if you remember I told you about Betty in Cardigan).

Esta nos cuenta la historia de una persona que está atravesando un mal momento en todos los sentidos, ve cómo su vida está estancada y se compara con el resto. Sabe que hay cosas que tiene que mejorar, aunque le cuesta, por eso dice que lo está intentando.
This tells the story of a person who is going through a bad time in every way, he sees how his life is stagnant and compares himself with the rest. He knows that there are things he has to improve, although it is hard for him, that's why he says he is trying.
La canción tiene buen ritmo, la melodía es tranquila pero intensa. Siento que se queda un poco corta, pero en esa intensidad te hace vivirlo todo con su letra.
The song has a good rhythm, the melody is calm but intense. I feel it falls a little short, but in that intensity it makes you live it all with its lyrics.
Una frase que me gusta mucho es "Me dijeron que todas mis jaulas eran mentales" y "cuando estoy enojada mis palabras tiran a matar, tengo muchos arrepentimientos acerca de esto", pienso que todos nos podemos identificar con esta canción en algún momento de nuestras vidas.
A phrase that I like a lot is "They told me all of my cages were mental" and "My words shoot to kill when I'm mad, I have a lot of regrets about that", I think we can all identify with this song at some point in our lives.
Y aunque es muy lindo mi top five, les traigo una canción de bonus track: Hoax.
And as nice as my top five is, I bring you a bonus track song: Hoax.
Hoax es la penúltima canción del álbum y hay quienes piensan que es una canción de desamor y otros que es de las más románticas. Yo creo que me inclino más por la segunda.
Hoax is the penultimate song on the album and some people think it's a song of heartbreak and others think it's one of the most romantic. I think I'm more inclined to the second one.
Siento que este tema representa el lado más vulnerable del amor, el de una persona que está cerrada y rota, que no quiere volver a sufrir por amor entonces lo evita a todo costa. Pero la otra persona no está dispuesta a dejarte ir y te dice que lo intenten.
I feel that this theme represents the most vulnerable side of love, that of a person who is closed and broken, who doesn't want to suffer for love again so avoids it at all costs. But the other person is not willing to let you go and tells you to try.
La melodía es una de mis favoritas, muy tranquila y frágil, se puede sentir la vulnerabilidad con la que está cantada.
The melody is one of my favorites, very quiet and fragile, you can feel the vulnerability with which it is sung.
Frases como "me paré al borde del acantilado gritando: dame una razón" o "no quiero ninguna otra tristeza más que la tuya", son representativas de la lucha que está viviendo la protagonista. Está gritando que le den una razón para creer en este amor, aunque sabe que no aceptaría ninguna otra tristeza en el mundo más que esa.
Me parece muy romántica y conmovedora.
Phrases like "Stood on the cliffside, Screaming: Give me a reason" or "Don't want no other shade of blue", are representative of the struggle the protagonist is going through. She is screaming to be given a reason to believe in this love, even though she knows she wouldn't accept any other sadness in the world but that one.
I find it very romantic and touching.
Palabras finales - Closing words
Bueno este fue mi análisis personal sobre estas canciones del álbum. Les cuento que fue muy difícil elegir y me quedaron muchas canciones de este álbum que amo afuera (bueno en realidad amo todo el álbum). Se convirtió en uno de mis discos favoritos de Taylor por todo lo que significó y significa en mi vida.
Well this was my personal analysis of these songs from the album. I will tell you that it was very hard to choose and I was left many songs from this album that I love out (well actually I love the whole album). It became one of my favorite Taylor albums because of everything it meant and means in my life.
