So here I go again. I've lost count of how many blogs I've started and then just let die on the vine over the years. So this isn't a blog. Nope. It's an occasional diary. ;-)
I think there is a difference now, though. I do think I've got things to write about. Which helps, I guess. My little expeditions into music have been steadily getting more attention - mainly thanks to the support of the lovely bunch of folk over at The Electronic Music Alliance. Now, I'm not doing huge numbers, but I am doing OK. I've got to the stage where someone is listening to a gribblytune every day. That makes me feel really good. So if you're one of those folk who do drop in and play my stuff - thank you!
And having more folk play my stuff - and keep playing it (whod'v'e thought?) - makes me want to do more, and being in the EMA also spurs me on. They're so productive - and there's always a new playlist or remix or release to get involved with.
So, I've been thinking about what I want to release for the rest of this year - I was sort of aiming to gather enough material for an album. That's certainly where my head was it in the last gribblycast I did (which was far too long ago - will get back on that particular horse as well), but as time has gone on I've come to realise that for an indie artist like me it's best to do lots of regular releases - keeps me visible. And that's one of the biggest challenges for someone like me - keeping that profile up and interesting so folk engage. That's partly what this blog diary is about as well.
So, single/EP releases are the way to go for now. My old way of working was as soon as a tune was done, I pushed it out fast. Single track, done & on to the next. I don't really quite want to go back to that level - but a release a month feels good. And treat it like an old skool single or EP. Try to make each release something nice as well as just throwing into the digital disto maelstrom. More on those plans in another post.
After going through my ever growing work in progress/unfinished folder and finding lots of stuff I could use, and adding new tunes as well I find myself with a potential 6 good lead tracks and a decent number of tunes for "b-sides" and EP tracks (some of which could end up as lead tracks as well. And I'm not going to stop writing stuff)
So in order to keep myself on track and make sure this stuff'll happen, and I get releases out on time I think need to get organised. I need to plan things. There's going be be spreadsheets and tasks and deadlines. A release plan. Lord help me.
Anyway - that's where I am. There's other stuff starting to happen - playlisting on radio stations, possible collabs and suchlike. I thought it'd be interesting to keep track of it all in this diary and share How Gribbles Gets Organised - or indeed document me failing to do so!
I must admit, even though I've been doing this for a few years, it still feels like I'm starting out - but I can now feel a bit of momentum growing - so this seems like a good point to start doing this. Hopefully folk'll find it interesting - and maybe we can share tips on the way...?
