Tuesday dashed in quietly while we (me and Anyongi) were enjoying the morning in bed. I was feeling exhausted after spending most of yesterday finalizing my DIY project. The little guy knows he extended his snooze time without bothering me early like he used to. If not for our tummy growling, I wouldn't have woken up, lol!
Not that I encourage laziness but sometimes it feels good to just sit back and relax. Our soul needs it. Well, that's what I thought anyway after spending the day with movies, naps, and music. I now feel a bit more invigorated. It's not always the case though for there are times when doing so makes me like a zombie, lol!
But yeah, The Old Guard was a 2-hour film but it intrigued me because Charlize Theron is in it so I had to watch. And guess what? No, I'm not giving any spoilers, lol! I was just gonna say I liked some of the soundtracks too and since it's Tuesday, let me take the chance to share them for the TTT initiative by Ablaze.
Born Alone Die Alone by Madalen Duke
This song was played at the film's opening, making it more intriguing (cannot stop myself from reusing the word, lol).
Anyway, the track was performed by Madalen Duke, a Canadian singer songwriter who started writing music when she was 13 taking inspiration from Gwen Stefani, Kanye West, etc. Her haunting vocals set the tone and mood for the film, making it more cinematic.
Her other songs include How Villains Are Made which was used in the TV Series Chucky. Her amazing voice with a certain darkness in it makes it quite catchy.
Interestingly, she played a small role in The Last Rites of Ransom Pride in 2010.
Say Your Prayers by Blithe
A haunting and emotive vocal by Blithe who is said to be a brand new UK pop star in the making. Unfortunately, I didn't find more information about her but she does have a voice. Accordingly, her music influencers include Pink, Katy Perry, and Cardi B.
This song has that alternative indie style that kept me listening to it a few times during the afternoon. I think Blithe is already a star on her own, what say you?😅
Here's to share a part of the lyrics:
Are we on the same page, yeah
We ain't making it to church
I want you on your worst behaviour
Got you begging to be saved, yeah
You better say your prayers
'Cause baby you know why we came here
Elle King - Baby Outlaw
The music was befittingly used in the end credits of The Old Guard, featuring Elle's signature style influenced by rock, blues, and country. The track was included on her album Shake the Spirit released in 2018.
I've listened to some of her other songs like Ex's and Ohs - an alternative rock that earned her 2 Grammy nominations in 2016, America's Sweetheart with its fun tunes, and Lucky, a lovely country song that showed a different side of the singer.
She collaborated with other artists like Miranda Lambert for Drunk I Don't Wanna Go Home; Dierks Bentley on the song Different For Girls and more. Their songs and performances were also nominated for Grammy in 2017, 2020, and 2022.
And there goes my recommendation for TTT. It was nice to discover and listen to these 3 artists today. I could play their songs again.
I hope you like any of them. Thank you and have a fantastic Tuesday!
