Yay, it's Tuesday!
Magandang buhay :)
We had a laid-back Monday with the super breezy weather. Then a piece of news from afar got my mind whirling most of the day I had to find a way to silence it because it was tiring. It's crazy how certain information can impact our thoughts. Thankfully, the husband played some feel-good tunes that distracted my mind, keeping it from going completely into an abyss.
Maoli, one of Polynesia's top commercial recording artists and credited with over twenty-one #1 Regional Island Reggae Hits got us groovin' in the afternoon. So today, let me share my 3 favorites among their songs to participate in Ablaze's Three Tune Tuesday initiative.
But first, a little background about Maoli:
Maoli (which means "native" in Hawaiian) consists of a trio - Glenn Awong (the lead singer, songwriter, and founder); Kana Akiu-Corpuz (the group's bass player); and Nuu Kahalehau (the lead guitarist and vocalist). Accordingly, they started in 2007 in Hawaii and have been making music for 17 years, performing in 42 states, New Zealand, Australia, Mexico, Guam, and the Saipan Territories.
And so, here are their 3!
Maoli - Country Reggae
I'm not sure if it was just us but we felt Glenn had a distinctive voice that when we listened to this song for the first time, we kind of knew the artist was from Hawaii. Well, the group's bio confirmed they are a native of Maui.
Anyway, the song is fun and uplifting, and as the title indicates, it fuses Reggae and Country. We found ourselves singing along as it played.
I'm a little bit country
and I'm a little bit reggae
Sometimes I listen to Miley
while I sip on my whiskey
Got my watermelon moonshine
And smoke to keep me irie
'Coz I'm a little bit country
and I'm a little bit reggae, reggae...
This next tune also has a fun beat, Island Reggae, they say. It's danceable so the hubby suddenly pulled me up and swayed me for a little groove that made us laugh until our tummies ached.😅 Good vibes, eh!
Maoli - Shoot Down
Released in September 2022, this song is about positivity, keeping good vibes, mutual respect, and cooperating for harmony in a relationship.
Why ya come and shoot down
on a good vibe ready to flow
You keep on coming and a coming
Baby, please stop rocking my boat
'coz I'm ready to rock
Honey don't say it if you lying
coz I'm here to water down your rose
So baby why ya shoot down
on a good vibe ready to flow
And finally the third tune for the day is a cover of the Bellamy Brothers' song:
Maoli - If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body
The original version is great and Maoli's rendition gave the country hits a fresh and fun beat of island reggae. They released this song in October 2022 and it's one of their most viewed music video on YouTube.
And with that, I end this week's recommendation for TTT. Hope you enjoyed them as much as we did. Cheers, and have a funtastic day!
