To unify his people, Bob Marley wrote and performed his songs of freedom. He chose to share his beliefs through his music not only to the people of Jamaica, but to a world full of oppression.
You see the colors of the earth and the universal symbol of peace in every visual memory he left us. Bob Marley sang of love and freedom. He also sang songs to educate the people against oppression.
To say Bob wasn't a fan of powerful forces that seek to divide us would be putting it lightly. And so, he sang out directly against those who use their power for selfish, self-serving ends. This is one such song!
Top Rankin'
They don't want to see us unite
All they want us to do is....
Keep on fussing and fighting
They don't want to see us live together
All they want us to do is...
Keep on killing one another
Whoa, Top Ranking
Or are you Skankin'
They say the blood runs
And it runs through our line
And our hearts, heart of hearts divine
And John saw them coming
With the truth from an ancient time
Whoa, Top Rankin'
Or are you Skankin'?
Whoa, Top Rankin'
Did you mean what you say now
Or are you Skankin'?
Thanks for listening. May peace and love be the journey.
