Hello everybody on HIVE, and especially the Music Community. My name is Jasper and I'm writing to you from Cape Town in South Africa!
This is my 60th week in a row contributing to "Three Tune Tuesday", an initiative started by . It is week 125 overall!
My new pattern for how I will be contributing to TTT is to take the Hive Open Mic challenge Theme of the Week and give suggestions on how I would tackle it!
For those of you who are not familiar, the Hive Open Mic is a weekly challenge on the Hive Open Mic community for anybody who loves to sing. You don’t even need to play an instrument, a backing track or a cappella is also fine as far as I can tell!
Different artists are given the chance to choose a “Theme of the Week” that the posts should be based on. Often it can be difficult for people to think about easy songs that might fit that theme… so let me see if I can be of any assistance to the people who still might not know what to try by the time Tuesday comes around!
All right! Let’s get cracking!
Here is the post inviting everyone to participate in this week’s Hive Open Mic (Week 184):

As you can see, it was the turn of to pick a theme, and this week the theme is “Sabor”! This translates to “flavour” in English.
Well, in my experience there are very few songs that make reference to food, sugar, spiciness or other flavour-references and mean it literally, instead of some kind of innuendo, but hey that’s totally fine!
You want something recent? What about “Watermelon Sugar” by Harry Styles? It was kind of disturbing how many school kids were singing along to this catchy pop song happily. I think it was only much later that Harry Styles admitted that the song had a naughty hidden meaning (that you are welcome to look up yourselves!) Here is the original:
You want something a bit older? The very first CD I ever bought, I am ashamed to say, was “Big Hits ’99 – Volume 2”, and among all the rubbish forgettable stuff, and some awesome stuff by Placebo, Blur and Skunk Anansie, it had a decently sweet pop song called “Sweet Like Chocolate” by Shanks and Bigfoot. I have actually tackled a cover of this already for the Hive Open Mic, back when the theme was literally “Chocolate”. Here is the original:
Finally, for those of you who like to tackle some rap with a super catchy chorus – how about “Cookie Jar” by the Gym Class Heroes? In it, the singer laments that “I want to be faithful but I can’t keep my hand out of the cookie jar…”
Eventually there’s a verse where he starts listing all the “flavours” of cookies he likes…
“I got a thing for Milano biscotti Italianos
And I'll never turn down some Oreos if you got them
Butter pecan Puerto Rican
Or them oatmeal raisin Asians
Hazelnut Brazilians, macadamia Caucasians
Double Stuff or Thin Mint
It don't matter, you gettin' it”
Well, he might be a philandering asshole, but at least he’s not racist! Hahaha!
So that's week 125 done and dusted! I hope that gave some people some ideas on how to tackle the Hive Open Mic Challenge this week? Perhaps I’ve even inspired one or two new people to give it a try? Please let me know!
