Últimamente he hablado por acá de algunos grupos y vocalistas que de una manera u otra evocan un sentimiento de nostalgia importante cuando en pleno 2023 aun escuchamos sus canciones e inevitablemente nos trasladamos años atrás. Me pasa con Sting, Aerosmith, Earth, Wind and Fire y hasta con el propio Santana; son sonidos muy característicos todos que sin importar cuanto tiempo pase seguirán en la memoria de muchos. Habiendo dicho esto hoy me he decidido a hablar de otra de esas bandas icónicas de los ochentas y noventas que por lo menos para mi significan algo ya que por lo menos con una de sus canciones me pasa que cada vez que la escucho me teletransporto a las mañanas cuando me arreglaba para ir al colegio, esa canción en cuestión era fija ya que siempre sonaba en cierto canal de televisión. Eso es lo mágico de la musica, te logra crear apegos únicos. Así que bueno, sin más escuchemos cuales son esos temas top de Bon Jovi.
Lately I have been talking here about some groups and vocalists that in one way or another evoke an important feeling of nostalgia when in 2023 we still listen to their songs and inevitably we are transported years ago. It happens to me with Sting, Aerosmith, Earth, Wind and Fire and even Santana himself; they are all very characteristic sounds that no matter how much time passes will remain in the memory of many. Having said that today I have decided to talk about another of those iconic bands of the eighties and nineties that at least for me mean something since at least one of their songs happens to me that every time I hear it I teleport to the mornings when I was getting ready to go to school, that song in question was fixed since it was always playing on a certain TV channel. That's the magic of music, it creates unique attachments. So, without further ado, let's hear what are those top Bon Jovi songs.
- Hallelujah
Si, yo se que Hallelujah es de Leonard Cohen pero la pongo en este top porque entre tantas versiones y covers que han hecho de este tema creo firmemente que este es uno de los mejores por no decir el mejor. De por si el tema es lo que es y la forma en como sea interpretada llegará mejor o peor a nuestros oídos así que es justamente acá donde considero que destaca Jon Bon Jovi, a pesar de estar asociado con el rock y tener la típica voz aguda cuando canta o cuando hace los gritos guturales interpretando este tema se le escucha en otro mundo, al punto de estar cantando una balada. Para mi este tipo tiene una de las mejores voces del genero y no se porque no es tan reconocido por eso, a lo mejor son cosas mías, pero cuando llega la hora de hacer un ranking es probable que no lo vean ahí. De este cover destaco varias cosas, el violín que siempre está acompañando y el coro, que son los mismos músicos; creo que al ser un tema tan grande y señorial, si cabe el termino, mientras más grandioso lo hagas para los oídos se escuchará mejor. Como dije de las versiones que más me gustan de esta canción, a lo mejor será porque soy fanático de Bon Jovi pero lo que es innegable es lo bien que suena. Hoy por hoy la sigo escuchando y el sentimiento es el mismo a la primera vez que la escuché.
Yes, I know that Hallelujah is by Leonard Cohen but I put it in this top because among so many versions and covers that have been made of this song I firmly believe that this is one of the best, if not the best. In itself the song is what it is and the way it is interpreted will reach better or worse to our ears so it is precisely here where I consider that Jon Bon Jovi stands out, despite being associated with rock and have the typical high-pitched voice when he sings or when he makes the guttural screams interpreting this song you can hear him in another world, to the point of singing a ballad. For me this guy has one of the best voices of the genre and I don't know why he is not so recognized for that, maybe it's just me, but when it comes time to make a ranking it is likely that he is not there. Of this cover I highlight several things, the violin that is always accompanying and the chorus, which are the same musicians; I think that being such a great and stately theme, if the term fits, the more grandiose you make it for the ears the better it will be heard. As I said of the versions that I like the most of this song, maybe it is because I am a Bon Jovi fan but what is undeniable is how good it sounds. Today I still listen to it and the feeling is the same as the first time I heard it.

Yo tenía 15 años aproximadamente cuando este tema salió a la luz, estamos hablando justamente en el año 2000. Siempre, cada mañana antes de ir al colegio prendía el televisor y yo no se si era algo que estaba predispuesto pero a la misma hora siempre sonaba It's My Life para alegrar mis mañanas que ya de por si eran bastante tristes por tener que levantarme temprano. Como comentaba en un principio todo el tema de la nostalgia es importante, soy una persona bastante nostálgica con la musica, por lo general escucho mucha música vieja o de aquellas épocas por lo que para mi estos temas siempre los voy a considerar grandes canciones. Pero es que si ven el video también tiene esa vibra noventera, además de que para ser un video musical es brutal, es uno que va de la mano con todo lo que tiene que ver la letra. It's My Life y sin muchas sorpresas habla precisamente de eso, de que la vida hay que disfrutarla porque no vamos a vivir para siempre, sin reproches ni arrepentimientos, vivirla al máximo mientras estemos vivos. Puede que sea muy cliché todo pero la verdad es que tema es icónico para una generación, por algo tiene más de 1300 millones de reproducciones en YouTube. Otras de las cosas muy particulares es la forma en como empieza, Bon Jovi usaba muchos distorsionadores de sonido, se escucha acá y en otros temas más, y creo que eso es una firma muy clásica de ellos, en los primeros segundos de la canción se aprecia mucho y ya después se normaliza en el resto del tema. It's My Life es de esas canciones que no pasarán de moda básicamente por lo trascendental que es.

As I said in the beginning, the whole nostalgia thing is important, I am a very nostalgic person with music, I usually listen to a lot of old music or music from those times, so for me these songs will always be considered great songs. But if you see the video it also has that nineties vibe, plus for a music video it's brutal, it's one that goes hand in hand with everything that has to do with the lyrics. It's My Life and without many surprises talks precisely about that, that life must be enjoyed because we are not going to live forever, without reproaches or regrets, live it to the fullest while we are alive. It may be very cliché but the truth is that this song is iconic for a generation, it has more than 1.3 billion views on YouTube. Another very particular thing is the way it starts, Bon Jovi used a lot of sound distorters, you can hear it here and in other songs, and I think this is a very classic signature of them, in the first seconds of the song it is very noticeable and then it is normalized in the rest of the song. It's My Life is one of those songs that will never go out of style basically because of how transcendental it is.
- Livin' On A Prayer
Como un dato curioso, cuando salió el juego Guitar Hero para el Nintendo Wii esta canción me la sabía el máximo nivel posible en la batería, tampoco es que la canción tenga una dificultad especial en este instrumento pero es algo que en su momento me dio orgullo, creo que eso puede ser una de las causas del cariño que le tengo a este tema. Esta es la más rockera, sin ninguna duda de las dos anteriores, no solo por el video sino por el sonido en general, es una canción más de los ochenta y eso se nota mucho. Seguimos escuchando esas distorsiones muy típicas de ellos junto con la batería con ese sonido tan peculiar. Si se fijan Bon Jovi eran unos tipos que estaban en lo que se conocía como el Glam Metal, que no es otra cosa que una rama más del Heavy Metal y eso lo notan como ya mencioné por el sonido y por la forma de vestir con esos trajes de cuero, zapatos de tacón y la forma de peinarse. Livin' On A Prayer habla de una pareja que vive al día, que están sufriendo porque que el hombre se quedó sin trabajo y ahora es la mujer la que tiene que llevar el dinero a casa. Entonces es ahí en donde apelan al amor para mantenerse unidos y a rezar para que toda esa situación pase rápido, literalmente están viviendo en una plegaria. Me parece impresionante como una canción tan "banal" en cuanto a su trasfondo se haya convertido en otro icono de la música. Esta es otra que no puede faltar en mi lista de reproducción, siempre está allí. Por acá siempre seré fanático de Bon Jovi y de todo lo que representaron y representan para la música.

Livin' On A Prayer talks about a couple living from day to day, who are suffering because the man is out of work and now it's the woman who has to bring the money home. So that's where they appeal to love to stay together and pray for the whole situation to pass quickly, they are literally living in a prayer. I find it impressive how such a "banal" song in terms of its background has become another music icon. This is another one that can't be missing in my playlist, it's always there. Over here I will always be a fan of Bon Jovi and everything they represented and represent for music.
