En el ejercicio de escuchar música además de encontrar nuevas canciones, cosa que creo que es lo que la mayoría busca, existe otra cosa que sin querer terminamos haciendo y es escuchar música que en algún momento de nuestras vidas ya hemos hecho pero que teníamos años que no sabíamos nada de ella. Es ese momento cuando de repente te consigues una canción de hace 25 años y que tenías 15 que no la oías, bueno, de algo así va esta publicación. Y todo esto es gracias indudablemente al Spotify que en mi caso es la herramienta que uso a diario para escuchar música de todo tipo. Me imagino que si pero esa sensación de volver a escuchar canciones aparentemente olvidadas por nuestra memoria la hemos experimentado todos y es un sentimiento bastante cool saber que hay cientos de temas por ahí que están esperando a que los volvamos a descubrir y a sacar del olvido. Estos son algunos de los míos.
In the exercise of listening to music, besides finding new songs, which I think is what most people are looking for, there is something else that we end up doing without wanting to, and that is listening to music that at some point in our lives we have already played but that we didn't know about for years. And all this is undoubtedly thanks to Spotify, which in my case is the tool I use daily to listen to music of all kinds. I imagine that if but that feeling of re-listening to songs apparently forgotten by our memory we have all experienced it and it's a pretty cool feeling to know that there are hundreds of songs out there that are waiting for us to rediscover them and bring them out of oblivion. These are some of mine.
- Passenger - Let Her Go (Feat. Ed Sheeran - Anniversary Edition)
Let Her Go es una canción que muchos conocemos y hemos cantado, es un tema que tiene más de 10 años de haber visto la luz pero que personalmente tenía bastante tiempo que no escuchaba. Lo mejor de todo esto es que la primera vez que la encontré después de tanto tiempo es con esta colaboración con Ed Sheeran. Está muy cool todo porque la canción le pega mucho al británico en parte porque las voces de ambos se complementan mucho, tienen casi el mismo timbre lo que hace que todo suene muy armónico y suave. Es sabido que la letra es otra de las razones por la cual este tema es tan querido, nos habla de esas cosas que tenemos pero que realmente no entendemos su valor hasta que las perdemos. Basicamente acá tenemos a una persona que supuestamente quiere y ama tanto a alguien que por ese miedo a que se pueda romper todo es preferible dejarla ir y después de haberlo hecho es cuando realmente te das cuenta del error que cometiste. Es una letra muy top, creo que todos hemos pasado por alguna situación así en algún momento de nuestras vidas por lo que la empatía está muy presente. Primer redescubrimiento del cual estoy contento de haberlo hecho.
Let Her Go is a song that many of us know and have sung, it is a song that has more than 10 years of having seen the light but that I personally had not heard for a long time. The best of all this is that the first time I found it after so long is with this collaboration with Ed Sheeran. It's very cool because the song is very close to the British in part because the voices of both complement each other, they have almost the same timbre which makes it all sound very harmonious and smooth. It is known that the lyrics are another reason why this song is so loved, it talks about those things that we have but we don't really understand their value until we lose them. Basically here we have a person who supposedly wants and loves someone so much that for fear of breaking everything it is preferable to let them go and after having done so is when you really realize the mistake you made. It's a very top lyric, I think we've all been through a situation like this at some point in our lives so the empathy is very present. First rediscovery of which I'm glad I did it.
- Take That - Back for Good
Los noventas fueron conocidos por ser una década en donde las Boy Band llegaron a su máxima expresión: Backstreets Boys, NSYNC, Westlife, Boyz II Men, Hanson y un largo etcétera. Y entre inmensa lista también existe una grupo británico que fue realmente grande en aquellos tiempos y es que además fue la casa de un cantante top muy conocido, un tal Robbie Williams. La cosa es que ellos por allá en el 95 sacaron un tema el cual es el más grande, conocido y comercial de su carrera, "Back for Good" el cual es la típica balada de la época pero que realmente es muy buena. Pues escuchando el modo aleatorio de Spotify me encontré esta joya la cual fácilmente tenía más de 15 años que no escuchaba por lo que la sorpresa fue bastante grande. Su letra es muy básica, nos habla de esta persona la cual cometió errores durante una relación y que ahora está arrepentido y que está buscando que la otra persona regrese para siempre. Musicalmente la canción es increíble, claramente se nota la calidad que había porque el acompañamiento de la voces en los coros haciendo segundas voces y hasta terceras es una locura. De hecho esto no se lo he escuchado a muchas bandas de este estilo por lo que acá estaría el punto de distinción. Escúchenla que de verdad es un muy buen tema y más si están familiarizados con el género y estilo.

And among the huge list there is also a British group that was really big in those days and it was also the home of a very well known top singer, a certain Robbie Williams. The thing is that back in 95 they released a song which is the biggest, best known and most commercial of his career, "Back for Good" which is the typical ballad of the time but it is really very good. Well, listening to Spotify's shuffle mode I found this gem which easily had more than 15 years that I had not heard so the surprise was quite big. Its lyrics are very basic, it tells us about this person who made mistakes during a relationship and now he is sorry and is looking for the other person to come back forever. Musically the song is incredible, you can clearly notice the quality that was there because the accompaniment of the vocals in the chorus doing second and even third voices is crazy. In fact, I haven't heard this from many bands of this style, so this would be the point of distinction. Listen to it, it really is a very good song and even more if you are familiar with the genre and style.
- Lenny Kravitz - Again
El gran Lenny Kravitz. Yo no se si ustedes vivieron esa época en donde Again sonó hasta por debajo de las piedras por allá a finales de los noventas, principios de los 2000 pero fue un tema que la verdad revolucionó el panorama de aquel tiempo. Como esto se trata de reencontrarse con temas viejos debo decir que este tema si que tenía también bastante tiempo que no la escuchaba, a lo mejor alguna vez se pasó por mi mente o por alguna lista de reproducción pero nunca con la intención de sentarme a escucharla. Es una canción que se pasea por el rock cayendo en la balada porque tiene elementos de ambos géneros, Lenny por lo general es rockero y este tema se le ve soleando con la guitarra y con una actitud del típico rockstar. Y la balada se nota mucho en las estrofas y la forma de contar la historia. La letra de que nos habla? - de un amor fugaz. De ese que conoces un día y después aquello no se vuelve a dar más. Siempre he pensado que Lenny Kravitz es de esos artistas un poco infravalorado, creo que es un cantante top con un estilo muy particular el cual debería de ser escuchado más. Tiene más de 10 millones de oyentes mensuales en Spotify, esos números son muy respetables pero de igual manera pienso que la gente lo oye tanto. Again es una canción que me lleva a una época muy chevere y me alegra volver a encontrármela en el camino, el mismo sentimiento que con Let Her Go.
The great Lenny Kravitz. I don't know if you lived that time when Again was played all over the place back in the late nineties, early 2000's, but it was a song that really revolutionized the panorama of that time. As this is about rediscovering old songs, I must say that I had not listened to this song for a long time, maybe once in my mind or in a playlist but never with the intention of sitting down to listen to it. It is a song that walks through the rock falling into the ballad because it has elements of both genres, Lenny is usually rocker and this theme is seen sunning with the guitar and with an attitude of the typical rockstar. And the ballad is very noticeable in the verses and the way the story is told. What are the lyrics about? - Of a fleeting love. The one you meet one day and then it never happens again. I have always thought that Lenny Kravitz is one of those artists a little underrated, I think he is a top singer with a very particular style which should be listened to more. He has over 10 million monthly listeners on Spotify, those numbers are very respectable but still I think people hear him that much. Again is a song that takes me back to a very cool time and I'm glad to find it again on the road, the same feeling as with Let Her Go.
Traten de hacer este ejercicio, modo radio en Spotify y estoy seguro que alguna joya del pasado les saldrá por ahí. Escuchar canciones "olvidadas" es una experiencia muy cool, la disfruté más de lo que pensé.
Try to do this exercise, radio mode on Spotify and I'm sure some gem from the past will pop out at you. Listening to "forgotten" songs is a very cool experience, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
