Bueno bueno paren todo que la banda que revolucionó los noventa y más allá está de regreso. Si hay una música que por lo menos para mí fue una influencia y una que llegó a marcar parte de mis gustos musicales sin duda tiene que ser la hecha por Blink-182. Esta banda de punk rock que nació a principios de los noventa creo que es de las más importantes de todos los tiempos ya que fueron o son considerados los precursores del género y es que gracias a ellos vieron la luz otros grupos que más adelante se harían su propio nombre pero todos bajo el manto, por así decirlo, de estos tres hombres.
Well well well, stop everything, the band that revolutionized the nineties and beyond is back. If there is a music that at least for me was an influence and one that came to mark part of my musical tastes certainly has to be the one made by Blink-182. This punk rock band that was born in the early nineties I think is one of the most important of all time because they were or are considered the precursors of the genre and thanks to them other groups were born that later would make their own name but all under the mantle, so to speak, of these three men.
La razón por la que estoy aquí es porque hace poco se dio a conocer que volverían a los escenarios casi ocho años después de su separación y que además vendrían con un sencillo y álbum nuevo próximos a salir. La verdad es que esto fue un poco un secreto a voces ya que muchos fanáticos podían mínimamente sospechar de que esto pasaría, mientras que estoy seguro había una gran cantidad que no tenía ni idea y esto por la forma en que se dio todo el proceso de separación. Las cosas parecían que no estaban bien entre Tom DeLonge y sus dos compañeros, Travis y Mark. Pero bueno, la cosa es que están de vuelta y hoy les traigo un pequeño top de las canciones que más me gustan de ellos.
The reason I'm here is because it was recently announced that they would be returning to the stage almost eight years after their breakup and that they would also be coming with a new single and album soon to be released. The truth is that this was a bit of an open secret since many fans could have even the slightest suspicion that this would happen, while I'm sure there was a large number who had no idea and this because of the way the whole process of separation took place. Things just didn't seem right between Tom DeLonge and his two partners, Travis and Mark. But well, the thing is that they are back and today I bring you a little top of the songs I like the most of them.
- First Date
Yo creo que esta canción es el reflejo de lo que Blink-182 es y de lo que para muchos significó. El video hay que decir que me parece increíble porque es un viaje al pasado del cómo eran las cosas hace casi treinta años atrás, los tres amigos rebeldes que se metían con todo el mundo, hacían skate y sobretodo los que ensayaban en el garage de sus casas; todo con la comedia correspondiente de la banda. En su momento yo toqué batería de forma muy amateur, nunca la tomé en serio como para dedicarme a ella y recuerdo que esta canción fue la primera que me aprendí de ellos, Travis para mi es de los mejores bateristas que ha dado la música en la historia contemporánea y hay que dar gracias que pudo sobrevivir a aquel accidente aéreo que sufrió por allá en el 2008. Si bien es verdad que este tema lo sacaron en los 2000 creo que es una de lo más referenciales para mi. Habla un poco de lo que es tener una primera cita con la persona que te gusta y de las cosas "tontas" que uno siente y dice. Es un temazo y es por eso es la primera de mi lista.
I think this song is a reflection of what Blink-182 is and what it meant to many. I have to say that I think the video is incredible because it is a trip to the past of how things were almost thirty years ago, the three rebellious friends who messed with everyone, skateboarded and above all those who rehearsed in the garage of their homes; all with the corresponding comedy of the band. At the time I played drums in a very amateur way, I never took it seriously enough to dedicate myself to it and I remember that this song was the first one I learned from them, Travis for me is one of the best drummers that music has given in contemporary history and we should be thankful that he survived that plane crash he suffered back in 2008. Although it is true that this song was released in the 2000's, I think it is one of the most referential for me. It talks a bit about what it's like to have a first date with the person you like and the "silly" things you feel and say. It's a great song and that's why it's at the top of my list.
- I Miss You
Este tema, aún más reciente que el anterior, es de las grandes canciones de ellos porque es un giro a lo que uno venía escuchando. Es una demostración de la capacidad de estos tres músicos de hacer temas que no necesariamente tenían que ser ese punk rock tan característicos de ellos, si mal no recuerdo esta canción fue escrita por Tom, como casi todas, pero también ayudaron tanto Mark como Travis. Evidentemente no es una balada pero es un rock mucho más suave y ameno que nos habla del extrañar a alguien que aparentemente vive en nuestra mente y en nuestra casa, ya que tal parece que en varias partes del tema le cantamos a un fantasma de alguien que ya partió, además de que el video está ambientado en una temática de terror por todo lo que la letra explica. Es increíble imaginar lo que se se sentirá ver a Blink en vivo después de tantos años, digo imaginar porque desgraciadamente Venezuela, como era de esperarse, no está dentro de la gira que harán el año que viene. Soy de las personas que hubiese pagado el dinero para ir verlos pero sin pensarlo, es una banda muy mítica con una carga nostálgica y sentimental muy grande y que estoy seguro que dicha gira será de las más grandes en cuanto a convocatoria y ganancias de los últimos tiempos para cualquier artista o banda musical.
This song, even more recent than the previous one, is one of their great songs because it is a twist to what one had been listening to. It is a demonstration of the ability of these three musicians to make songs that did not necessarily have to be that punk rock so characteristic of them, if I remember correctly this song was written by Tom, like almost all of them, but also helped both Mark and Travis. Evidently it is not a ballad but it is a much softer and more pleasant rock that talks about missing someone who apparently lives in our mind and in our house, as it seems that in several parts of the song we sing to a ghost of someone who has already left, plus the video is set in a horror theme for everything that the lyrics explain. It is incredible to imagine what it will feel like to see Blink live after so many years, I say imagine because unfortunately Venezuela, as expected, is not in the tour they will do next year. I am one of the people who would have paid the money to see them but without thinking about it, it is a very mythical band with a very big nostalgic and sentimental charge and I am sure that this tour will be one of the biggest in terms of attendance and profits of recent times for any artist or band.
- All The Small Things
La canción que es un icono de la cultura pop no podía dejar de estar en mi top porque además de marcar una clara tendencia el tema es increíble. Esta sale en el año 1999, época en donde las grandes Boys Band y el pop estaban en su máximo esplendor, tanto es así que todo el video es una parodia a los Backstreet Boys, NSYNC y hasta Christina Aguilera se lleva su parte en él. Yo recuerdo que en esos años había como una "pelea" o "riña" entre los fanáticos de todos estos géneros porque muchos no entendían cómo habían personas que les pudieran gustar los BSB como también el caso a la inversa, los rockeros eran mal vistos ya que los consideraban malas influencias por sus tatuajes y el grado de la música. Afortunadamente todos esos clichés con el tiempo han quedado atrás y el olvido pero si, fue algo que la música sufrió por unos cuantos años. All The Small Things creo que es la canción más grande de Blink-182, la más popular y la que más reproduciones tiene en todas las plataformas, pero ojo porque esto no quiere decir que sea la mejor. En lo personal me gusta únicamente por un tema de recuerdos y de pura nostalgia, me lleva a unos tiempos en donde todo era más sencillo, la vida era más fácil y hasta más feliz. Son épocas que no volverán pero por fortuna la música sigue intacta para eso, para recordarnos todos.
The song that is an icon of pop culture could not fail to be in my top because besides setting a clear trend the theme is amazing. It comes out in 1999, a time when the great Boys Band and pop were at their peak, so much so that the whole video is a parody of the Backstreet Boys, NSYNC and even Christina Aguilera gets her part in it. I remember that in those years there was like a "fight" or "quarrel" between fans of all these genres because many did not understand how there were people who could like the BSB as well as the reverse case, rockers were frowned upon as they were considered bad influences because of their tattoos and the grade of the music. Fortunately all those clichés have been left behind and forgotten but yes, it was something that music suffered for a few years. All The Small Things I think is Blink-182's biggest song, the most popular and the one with the most plays on all platforms, but be careful because this doesn't mean it's the best. Personally I like it only for a theme of memories and pure nostalgia, it takes me to a time when everything was simpler, life was easier and even happier. These are times that will never come back but fortunately music is still intact for that, to remind us all.
Esta es el último sencillo de ellos, sacado recientemente y a pesar de no ser un temazo es uno que mantiene la esencia de los tres miembros y es que cuando se tiene claro que es lo que caracteriza a una banda, en este caso el sonido, es muy fácil empatizar con lo nuevo. Pueden pasar los años y la actitud siempre será la misma, viendo el video y escuchando el tema podemos confirmar que todo sigue muy fiel a sus mejores momentos. Y es que no estamos hablando de jóvenes de hace veinte años, hay que tener en cuenta que tanto Tom como Travis tienen 46 años y Mark creo que llega a los 50, de ahí el mérito de sonar y lucir exactamente igual. Lo bueno es que en ese sentido no van a haber ningún tipo de criticas porque los fanáticos estamos claros de que más allá de la edad es un estilo de vida, aunque sea la frase más cliché de la vida. Repito, para mi es una verdadera lastima no verlos en vivo porque al ver este video me doy cuenta que las condiciones parecen estar intactas, Travis sigue siendo el monstruo de la batería que siempre fue y tanto Tom como Mark sigue con esa misma voz y fuerza al tocar la guitarra y el bajo respectivamente. Esperemos que el disco sea un éxito y sobretodo que venga lleno de grandes tema para que el regreso de Blink 182 sea más grande todavía.
This is their latest single, recently released and although it is not a great song, it is one that keeps the essence of the three members, and when it is clear what characterizes a band, in this case the sound, it is very easy to empathize with the new. The years can pass and the attitude will always be the same, watching the video and listening to the song we can confirm that everything is still very faithful to their best moments. And we are not talking about young people from twenty years ago, we must take into account that both Tom and Travis are 46 years old and Mark I think he reaches 50, hence the merit of sounding and looking exactly the same. The good thing is that in that sense there will not be any kind of criticism because we fans are clear that beyond age it is a lifestyle, even if it is the most cliché phrase in life. I repeat, for me it is a real shame not to see them live because watching this video I realize that the conditions seem to be intact, Travis is still the drum monster he always was and both Tom and Mark still have the same voice and strength when playing guitar and bass respectively. Let's hope that the album will be a success and above all that it will be full of great songs to make Blink 182's comeback even bigger.
Tres canciones dentro de un mar de temas que tiene esta banda pero que para mi recoge lo mejor de ellos. Probablemente faltaron algunas pero bueno, me tuve que sentar a pensar un poco y al final estas fueron las tres escogidas. Una banda que estoy seguro que después de 8 años de estar separados seguirán marcando un poco la tendencias y lo mejor aun es que las nuevas generaciones podrán ver a uno de los mejores grupos de la música de los últimos años.
Three songs in a sea of songs that this band has, but that for me, it is the best of them. Probably some were missing but well, I had to sit down to think a little and in the end these were the three chosen. A band that I am sure that after 8 years of being separated they will continue to set the trends and the best thing is that the new generations will be able to see one of the best bands of the music of the last years.
