Letting my hands play what they want, piano improvisation #017
I think another way of phrasing “piano improvisation” is “letting my hands play what they want.” Usually when I improvise I think about the next chord I’m going to play, as if I’m connecting dots. Today I wanted to try playing without thinking and just letting my hands move.
Things I have to do, things I should have done but couldn’t, things I didn’t have to do but would have been good to, things I didn’t need to do but wanted to. All those things were swirling around in my mind and tormenting me. I spent only a brief time playing, but in that time I was free from those thoughts. When I finished playing, as if I had just finished a workout, my body felt light :)
I seek to soothe through piano my emotions that can't be expressed with words. In those times I am free. This channel started as a "diary written through music". Thank you for listening.
