The cool thing on being on a sailing boat, is that when you have a decent speed going on and the wind is not that bad that it is a whole lot of work the whole time, it is actually quite relaxing. Espcially when the sun is starting the set a little bit in the late afternoon and that beautiful glitch is popping up over the water for golden hour....that is the moment when you want a little speaker on there with some chill tunes.
Also after dropping your anchor after you have decided it is enought for the day and you finally an open an 'anchorbeer' (because you can't have a drink when you are the captain...I wouldnt even want to as there is so much going on while sailing and you constantly have to be aware of that something can change) that is the moment when you gaze over the water....have a little chips on the side....and just let the music take you away for a bit.
Not that high bpm, low in the energy and just some easy going stuff.
Yeah, time for the mediterranean playlist!
Kiasmos- Sailed
How suiting in the setting of the sailing process when you also find some easy beats music with a 'Sailed' theme. I have been a big fan of Kiasmos for a while now (the rumour is that they will be touring again this year) and they have just put out a new record this 2024 year again which has even more relaxing songs on it.
Together with Olafur Arnolds who is also a really laid back artist this is actually a nice album to put on when you are leant back into your pillow. A nice addition to their already steady repetoire, I'm digging the new album!
Enya - Sail away
Maybe a bit of a joke by putting on this song while you are on a boat, but I must admit....putting on some Enya doesn't feel misplaced at all while being in the great white open sea. After putting this on for a second for the fun of it, actually the whole Orinoco Flow album was really nice to have on the background as the sun was starting to burn the skin more and more, and as the other boats were slowly starting to disappear.
Okay, a classic but approved!
Moby - Porcelain
Another classic that doesn't misfit here at all. Moby felt a bit said and done over the years as the image was more important than the music, but you have to conclude that he has some nice tunes written to his name. Ofcourse one of the more uptempo songs like 'feeling so real' would totally not fit the sundown setting. But porcelain on the other hand, is actually a real beauty for taking it easy.
And if you don't want to do the thinking on what you want to listen in those late afternoons..? Spotify has some decent lists like the 'Balerean Beats' playlist (Ibiza is one of the Balearic Islands and ofcourse their music scene is something else) so those are filled with just some chill songs to put on and let the time pass by!
Maybe this will be the type of chill songs we will be listening to at Hivefest on the boat. What do you think?
