Breath in, Out!
Wow... I literally did the breath-in and out exercise just like people are usually advised to do when they are anxious.
I'm really anxious because of the somewhat nasty songs I'm about to share on this Blockchain. Haha. I've made up my mind about this, so get ready for a feel of the type of songs that trend in Nigeria. Also, it feels right to inform you some of what is coming is rated PG-18 by me.
I'm freaking serious.
We will get to that in a minute, but let's do the usual honours 👇
This is my third entry to Three Tunes Tuesday (#ttt), an adorable initiative that is moderated by and this is the first time I'm sharing hits from 9ja (aka Nigeria).
Let's do this!
The three songs I will be sharing today come from one artist. He is the guy who screams 'another banger' at the beginning of all his songs and he means every alphabet in those words.
His name is Divine Ikubor with Rema as his stage name. The young lad is 22 years old, from Benin City in Edo State. Click this 👈 for more background information about him.
Let's explore his top Bangers;
1. Dumebi, released in 2019
I know we are supposed to hear nasty stuff here, but there is no way I can share stuff about Rema without starting with his very first song that captivated me. That song is nothing close to 'nasty'. It's the sanest song I've heard from the lad.
This isn't the official music video, but I don't like the official music video, so anyone that still wants to watch that can click this YouTube link.
I was in my final lap in Uni when this song was released. It topped the chat on various musical platforms for several weeks. The vibe to the song was spot-on. Still spot-on to date.
2. Bounce, released in 2021
This is a very naughty one. Mahd beats. The idea for the music video (I believe) comes from Mad Max Fury. If you've seen the movie, you will surely relate to the setting of this music video.
Turn down the volume of thou headset.
The song on its own was already a banger because the beat resonates with what trends for big fans of afrobeat. As if people were not obsessed enough, the dude dropped that insane music video. Haha. When the video got released, the music industry faced a massive eruption. Haha.
Don Jazzy, a Nigerian musical giant and the owner of Mavins record label where Rema belongs was also featured in the video.
3. Soundgasm, released in 2022.
Well well well. I've got to say that I saved the nastiest for the last. This is lit 🔥 - raised to power 2. Haha.
This song is a masterpiece. The choreography is epic. It's a very simple concept at first look with just two people in the video, but connots a complex meaning in relation to the lyrics of the song.
The beat as always gets 100% by afrobeat standards. There seems to be the sound of a flute coming from the background. Also, the guy running the piano is onto something in that song. He aced it.
On a musical level, this video is a pure work of art.
Watch it and love it.
For all these songs, don't ask about the message in the song. I don't see any but over here, songs like these trend for what you might refer to as 'obvious reasons. Haha. GoodLuck finding those 'obvious reasons.
C'ya next Tuesday.
