El padre de Bach le prohibía al pequeño genio estudiar por su cuenta partituras de compositores italianos de la época (como Vivaldi) y con el argumento de que podían "deformar su aprendizaje", las escondía en un armario bajo llave. El pequeño e intrépido músico no se detuvo ante tal obstáculo, y en medio de la noche Bach se introducía en la habitación donde reposaban las partituras y con un palo que metía entre las rendijas del mueble, alcanzaba las partituras y como si de una pesca se tratará las sacaba una a una para luego copiarlas a luz de vela y devolverlas antes del amanecer, de manera que su padre al despertar no notara nada extraño.

Bach's father forbade the little genius to study scores by Italian composers of the time (Vivaldi) on his own and on the grounds that they could "distort his learning", he hid them in a locked cabinet. The small and intrepid musician did not stop before such an obstacle, and in the middle of the night Bach would enter the room where the scores were resting and with a stick that he inserted between the cracks of the cabinet, he reached for the scores and as if he were caught fishing. He will try to take them out one by one and then copy them by candlelight and return them before dawn, so that his father would not notice anything strange when he woke up.
