Original vs Covers second edition is here. Last Friday, when I published my first post on this topic I was not sure how often I will write this kind of posts. But I was ready in my mind for the new one already two or three days ago when I saw one hive user's cover.
I wanted to feature it immediately but I think having patience and order in life is important. So I published some other posts I have planned and waited for Friday to write this one. If you missed that first post from last week, where I wrote a bit more about the reason and why these posts will come, you can see it HERE. One very talented user was mentioned there, check him out!
In general, I don't like it when things are messed up. For example, yesterday was a day when seemed everything went in another direction than we would expect. We had some beautiful spring days, but the weather decided to shake up the good spring mood we started to enjoy. Heavy rain covered my windshield and mirrors as I drove to work, so parking almost led to a broken taillight. Although I am not a professional driver, only a piano player, parking even in heavy rain should not be science fiction, so the car remained intact.
Waiting for the rain to calm down a bit to get out of the car I listened to music. And you would never guess what. The radio stations also decided to play a little with me, so none of them worked, and the only CD I had in the car was a compilation of Christmas songs. Don't ask. Listening to those melodies in March is not healthy, because it seems that those frequencies attracted snow as well as rain. In the afternoon, when it became clear, I saw that the peaks of the nearby mountains were covered with snow.
It's as if weather has let us know that it doesn't matter if it's the middle of March, or if the place of residence is important at all, whether it will rain or snow ... It told us this is me, accept it or not. And exactly This Is Me is the title of the song we are going to listen to today. In original version and in some cover versions with one hive user included (don't cheat, don't scroll down to see who it will be). Let us go step by step, starting from the original and then the best for the end!!!
SONG : THIS IS ME from The Greatest Showman
The song was released in 2017 and was performed by singer Keala Settle for the film The Greatest Showman. Along with Million Dreams, this is one of the most famous tracks from the movie. Some of my students already played a piano cover of it, and that was the first time I heard the song when they asked for it. I was so nicely surprised by the beauty and universal message of the song.
COVER 1 by Costantino Carrara
This pianist from Italy always amazes me with his playing and his covers, which are more than just covers. He transforms every song into a new piece of music and brings so many fresh sounds through his piano playing. He has a successful YouTube channel, with 768K subscribers! Here he has shown again his extraordinary playing skills, although from my perspective, he sits a bit low so I see his posture as a bit weird. But hey, that is the freedom of any of us to have a unique way of playing. I can clearly see also a thousand and a thousand hours of practising classical works, so his technique is excellent. Just blown away with his piano cover of This Is Me.
COVER 2 by VORD Electric String Quartet
VORD is and electric string quartet based in Indonesia. I watched this video and imagined how it would be in real sound. Strong wind that helps that the video looks cool, but for the sound recorded there it would be catastrophic. And we all know that electric instruments need cables and power supply...But the sound recorded in a studio is so nice here, and the video clip is a great addition to it. The cover is in pop style, and their playing is good indeed. It is always nice to see young musicians gathered and making efforts to achieve more than just playing inside for four walls. Well done guys.
COVER 3 by Musicality
I am fan of these vocal groups where young people can express themselves through team work. Musicality is a Chicago-based vocal group and I was reading the names of the soloist. All are good in their way, but the fifth soloist, who started at minute 1:31, her name is Sarah, oh she has so unique voice colour. And the last soloist, Ashley, she knocked me off my feet. My eyes got a tearful surprise again and I got goosebumps when after her solo part in minute 3:16 all the singers were suddenly dressed in colourful shirts. Until then, they were all in black. Good work, Musicality.
COVER 4 by Brooklyn Duo
Brooklyn Duo is formed in 2014, by a couple, Marnie and Patrick Laird. They already have about 1.16M subscribers so it would be hard to miss them. The couple mainly covers songs but also have their classical channel. The love they share is shown through music too, they complement each other perfectly. I like so much her smile at the end of the video :)
Here comes the HIVE USER featured today!!!!
COVER 5 by
Listen to her extraordinary performance here:
In her post we can read what this song means to her. Like a sign of self-love that can help us keep ahead and don't let criticism stop us. She explained that the voice range is pretty wide and that it is difficult to sing. But girl, you absolutely rock in your singing! And you are not just singing. You are giving your passion, your emotions and help us with your powerful voice let this song into our hearts. Young lady, you are so talented in other fields also, drawing, writing, playing the violin or cautro venezolano... Making original songs, making covers. I wish you all the best and a bright future. Thanks to your father who motivated you to start your hive blog! Never give up Manuela, and keep up with the excellent work.
Very warm recommendation to check out here in hive and support her work.
This was my second post on theme #OriginalvsCovers. The purpose of these posts will be to interact with other hive users, promoting them and encouraging their work, or the opposite, to give some advice if needed to improve something as that is the way we learn and achieve more success.
So which one do you like the most? The original... or some of the musicians featured here? They all made some good work, right? Let me know your opinion.
