Realmente estaba muy emocionada y expectante sobre la temática del álbum, los nombres de las canciones y lo que vendrÃa cuando saliera el álbum. Para muchos fue una gran decepción e incluso muchos de los que tenemos tiempo escuchando su música sentimos una sensación de que el álbum fue todo menos lo que se esperaba, pero a pesar de todo el hate y de los comentarios que no pararon de llegar luego del estreno, hay opiniones encontradas, sobre todo porque después de escuchar más de una vez el álbum, se sintió como algo que realmente es especial y que valió la pena esperar.
Hello, friends of the Music community, I hope you are doing great. A few days ago Taylor Swift's new album came out: The Life of a Showgirl. I was really excited and expectant about the theme of the album, the names of the songs and what was to come when the album came out. For many it was a big disappointment and even many of us who have been listening to her music for a while felt a sense that the album was anything but what was expected, but despite all the hate and comments that kept coming after the release, there are mixed opinions, especially because after listening to the album more than once, it felt like something that is really special and worth the wait.

The new album was highly anticipated by her fans and also by people who don't like her music, but are always waiting to say something about it. Full of glitter, scenery, photographs that let you see Taylor in a more glamorous and attractive way, where she was looking for somehow that her idea of releasing an album that tells what you live after a show or after a tour as was The Eras, it was not expected that she wanted to write about her experience at the time and after that successful tour, plus all the changes that were happening in her life, as her current relationship and her engagement to Travis.
El álbum se hacÃa sentir como algo grande, que superarÃa sus anteriores éxitos y que de alguna forma mostrarÃa que Taylor aún posee la habilidad y sabe cómo mantener el éxito. Sin embargo, después de salir el álbum hubo demasiadas crÃticas sobre que la temática no concordaba con las canciones del álbum; siento que es algo que sucede mucho cuando tenemos la primera impresión de algo y sobre todo si tenemos altas expectativas y esperamos cosas que ya habÃa hecho anteriormente. A mà personalmente me gustó mucho el álbum desde la primera vez que lo escuché; sentà que relató bastante bien lo que se siente ser una showgirl y sobre todo lo que ella sintió durante The Eras y luego preparando este nuevo álbum. Pienso que, como todo en la vida, no siempre te van a gustar todos los álbumes o canciones de tu artista favorito y está bien, eso no te hace menos fan.
The album was made to feel like something big, that it would surpass her previous successes and somehow show that Taylor still has the ability and knows how to maintain success. However, after the album came out there was too much criticism that the subject matter didn't match the songs on the album; I feel that this is something that happens a lot when we have a first impression of something and especially if we have high expectations and expect things that she has done before. I personally liked the album a lot from the first time I listened to it; I felt it told quite well what it feels like to be a showgirl and especially what she felt during The Eras and then preparing this new album. I think, like everything in life, you're not always going to like every album or song by your favorite artist and that's okay, it doesn't make you any less of a fan.
Este álbum cuenta con doce canciones tituladas: The Fate of Ophelia, Elizabeth Taylor, Opalite, Father Figure, Eldest Daughter, Ruin the Friendship, Actually Romantic, Wish List, Wood, Cancelled!, Honey y finalmente la última The Life of a Showgirl. Ya desde que salieron los nombres de las canciones estuve muy emocionada, porque podrÃa pasar dos cosas: que no me gustaran para nada o que me encantara. Las escuché sin ningún tipo de expectativas y la verdad es que son diferentes a lo que anteriormente ella ha contado en sus canciones, viendo de alguna manera a una cantante más madura, que tiene otras prioridades y que desea no estar solo siempre complaciendo a las personas sobre lo que desean escuchar, sino que ella misma querÃa hacer algo que fuera especial principalmente para ella misma.
This album has twelve songs titled: The Fate of Ophelia, Elizabeth Taylor, Opalite, Father Figure, Eldest Daughter, Ruin the Friendship, Actually Romantic, Wish List, Wood, Cancelled!, Honey and finally the last one The Life of a Showgirl. Already since the names of the songs came out I was very excited, because two things could happen: I could not like them at all or I could love them. I listened to them without any kind of expectations and the truth is that they are different from what she has previously told in her songs, seeing in some way a more mature singer, who has other priorities and who wants to not only be always pleasing people about what they want to hear, but she herself wanted to do something that was special mainly for herself.
La primera canción que fue mi favorita es Opalite; no sé si sea por el ritmo y la letra, que tienen una forma de ser muy alegre y que te dan ganas de bailar. Es una canción muy romántica y que no puede evitar ser muy de Taylor; habla de la esperanza que siempre tuvo por encontrar a esa persona que la entendiera, que la pusiera como prioridad y que le demostrara con hechos que el amor es más que siempre tratar de dar lo mejor y no recibir lo mismo a cambio. Es una forma de dejar ver que su actual relación con Travis es una de las más sanas que ha tenido, donde se siente con la libertad de poder expresar lo que siente por él y que además le hace pensar incluso en tener una vida con él donde puedan tener una familia y disfrutar de sus propios sueños en común y por separado, ya que ambos vienen de mundos bastante distintos. Se sintió bonito la emoción que transmite en esta canción y por eso fue una de mis favoritas.
The first song that was my favorite is Opalite; I don't know if it's because of the rhythm and the lyrics, which have a way of being very cheerful and make you want to dance. It's a very romantic song that can't help but be very Taylor's; it talks about the hope she always had to find that person who would understand her, who would put her as a priority and who would show her with facts that love is more than always trying to give the best and not getting the same in return. It is a way of letting her see that her current relationship with Travis is one of the healthiest she has ever had, where she feels free to express what she feels for him and that also makes her think about even having a life with him where they can have a family and enjoy their own dreams together and separately, since they both come from quite different worlds. It felt nice the emotion she conveys in this song and that's why it was one of my favorites.
Mi segunda favorita fue Eldest Daughter; sentÃa desde antes de que saliera el álbum que esta canción me harÃa sentir de alguna manera triste, pero comprendida. El tÃtulo ya demuestra de qué va la letra; ella, siendo la hermana mayor, nos cuenta desde su perspectiva todo lo que vive una mujer siendo la hermana mayor, desde ser la que debe dar siempre el ejemplo, la que no puede equivocarse, la que no debe tener miedo, la que siempre debe estar presente y dar seguridad. Desde que la escuché me da sentimiento y sentà que, de tantas canciones que ella tiene, con esta me sentà comprendida de muchas maneras; se sintió muy personal y, a pesar de que muestra que también como hermanos mayores nos podemos cansar, tener miedo y sentirnos insuficientes, encontramos la fuerza para seguir viendo a nuestros hermanos crecer y dándoles el apoyo que tal vez como hermanos mayores también necesitamos.
My second favorite was Eldest Daughter; I felt even before the album came out that this song would make me feel somehow sad, but understood. The title already shows what the lyrics are about; she, being the older sister, tells us from her perspective everything that a woman lives being the older sister, from being the one who must always give the example, the one who cannot make mistakes, the one who must not be afraid, the one who must always be present and give security. Since I listened to it, it gives me a feeling and I felt that, out of so many songs she has, with this one I felt understood in many ways; it felt very personal and, even though it shows that also as older brothers we can get tired, be afraid and feel insufficient, we find the strength to continue seeing our brothers grow and giving them the support that perhaps as older brothers we also need.
Para no hacer este post tan largo, mencionaré otra de mis favoritas: Ruin the Friendship. Es una canción con una carga emocional muy grande; sabemos que en el pasado Taylor tenÃa un amigo que murió de forma trágica y con el que tenÃa un lazo de amistad muy grande. En la canción lo recuerda de una manera nostálgica, sobre cómo hubieran sido las cosas si tan solo hubiera dado el paso y se hubiera atrevido a tener algo más que una amistad. También deja un mensaje reflexivo sobre que muchas veces, por el miedo, dejamos de hacer cosas o de vivir el momento, cuando pudimos hacerlo diferente y atrevernos a decir lo que pensamos y sentimos, en este caso decirle a esa persona que sentimos algo más que una amistad, a pesar de tener el miedo de que se pueda arruinar la amistad, pero es mejor atreverse que quedarse con el sentimiento de que hubiera sido mejor el arriesgarse.
To keep this post short, I'll mention another one of my favorites: Ruin the Friendship. It is a very emotionally charged song; we know that in the past Taylor had a friend who died tragically and with whom she had a very strong bond of friendship. In the song she remembers him in a nostalgic way, about how things would have been if only she had taken the plunge and dared to have more than just a friendship. It also leaves a reflective message about how many times, because of fear, we stop doing things or living in the moment, when we could have done it differently and dared to say what we think and feel, in this case telling that person that we feel something more than friendship, despite the fear that it could ruin the friendship, but it is better to dare than to stay with the feeling that it would have been better to take the risk.
La temática del álbum fue vista como muy glamurosa; siento que la decepción viene de esperar algo que realmente no era lo que intentaba Taylor sacar, sobre todo después de todo el trabajo y esfuerzo de los últimos años. Pero como todo, tal vez algunos se sienten diferentes porque este no es el tipo de música que les gustarÃa escuchar por parte de ella; tal vez esperaban algo más emocionante y, aunque para mà sà fue un álbum bastante bueno, con una temática increÃble, con letras que te hacen sentir feliz y al mismo tiempo nostalgia, creo que es algo que tiene mucho valor, sobre todo porque ella siempre ha buscado que, aunque sus álbumes no gusten, dejen algo en las personas que sà disfrutamos de su arte y de lo que nos desea mostrar a través de él. No solo una showgirl debe mostrar canciones muy explosivas o que generen drama; también puede ser visto como una forma de agradecer lo que hoy vive como persona y artista y de estar para los fans. Eso es algo que disfruto; ella, además, tiene una forma muy interesante de siempre preparar nuevas canciones que con el tiempo demuestran que no fueron solo un hit, sino que tenÃan una historia que valÃa la pena contar 🧡.
The subject matter of the album was seen as very glamorous; I feel the disappointment comes from expecting something that really wasn't what Taylor was trying to put out, especially after all the work and effort over the last few years. But like everything, maybe some people feel different because this is not the kind of music they would like to hear from her; maybe they were expecting something more exciting and, although for me it was a pretty good album, with an incredible theme, with lyrics that make you feel happy and at the same time nostalgic, I think it is something that has a lot of value, especially because she has always sought that, even if her albums are not liked, they leave something in the people who do enjoy her art and what she wants to show us through it. Not only does a showgirl have to show very explosive songs or songs that generate drama; it can also be seen as a way to be grateful for what she is experiencing today as a person and an artist and to be there for the fans. That's something I enjoy; she also has a very interesting way of always preparing new songs that over time prove that they weren't just a hit, but had a story worth telling 🧡.
