Not so long ago Roland released version 4.04 for the SP-404, which was a much talked about release for many reasons, one of them being an integration between the hardware device and the iPad/iPhone running Koala Sampler. It's a match made in heaven for all samplists (is that even a word?) out there.
Including me; and I only got around to trying it last night an had a lot of fun doing so, in fact so much so, I am hooked, will be seeking out old vinyl tracks!
The original sample, that I play at the beginning of the video, was taken from Tracklib and using Koala's stem splitting tool, I broke it down into 4 loops, for drums, bass, vocals and other. Since this is an instrumental, I only needed the drums and the bass. It does the job quite well, not as amazing as the Akai MPC or Logic Pro (which I can't use unless I upgrade both iPad and Macbook Pro, arrrggggghhhh).
In then sliced the stems into lots of little sample hits and started to sequence them and run them through a variety of FX.
That was that, so good, so much fun!
