Platform Project (cont.)
Alrighty then! Over the next 3 days, I'm going to be giving you all a feast of drum & bass music from the Platform Project show that was aired last week and the Profound Radio vs Electronic Music Alliance Breaks and Bass partayyyy on Monday! But first, we have the small matter of tidying up some loose ends from last weekend!
You may recall from earlier in the week that it was a bit of a last minute job with the track list that had to be incorporated in the Platform Project and we didn't even get around to sharing the tracks in the second segment from DJ Pi! If you want a recap of the show, here's a link to it and the track list for the first (click the image if you can't see the player):
So with that in mind, the legend himself - DJ Pi - got back to me with his track listing which includes links to all the tunes he featured in his 1 hour blaster last weekend. Don your wetsuits, we're going to be swimming in tunes now!
Tracklist (Part 2)
Starting at around 32:48 in to the mix, DJ Pi took the baton as I dashed up the M6 to pass it to him - I wish these miles would count towards the 2,020km challenge, would have finished it with half a year to spare! So in his own words, here's DJ Pi's narration through his segment:
Heft - Performance
Out now on Liquid Flow:
The Midnight - Los Angeles (DebK remix)
Reminds me of the vibe of "Drive" - captures the heady atmosphere of a summer evening on an LA beach:
Rob - Mangalan
In Rob's own words: ""I'm back with some Indian inspired jungle. I was drinking a Lassi and had that idea."
Photek - Ni Ten Ichi Ryu (Teebee remix)
Layers of complexity over an already very delicate original:
Censored The Audio - Wait
A moody minimal growler from Puerto Rican producer
Total Science - Jet Set (Cyantific Remix)
High octane remix of a TotSci classic:
London Elektricity - Just One Second (Apex remix)
Incredibly epic rework by the late Apex. Always reminds me of walking back to a flat I lived at in Muswell Hill that had a view over the city after a night raving.
Roni Size - Music Box (Sigma remix)
Another great rerub of an old-school Roni tune bringing it bang up to date
Break - Let It Happen (VIP)
Rounding of a remix session with this twisted absolute face-melting revisit of an awesome classic from the bassline maestro himself
Trei - Justify
The mixes come thick n fast as we hit the ground running with this mysterious rumbling wobble monster. The last four tunes are all from around 2007-2008
Ambient Jazz Ensemble - Waiting For Space (Dylan Colby remix)
Miscredited this track on the show, but it's still one of my all time favourites. First heard on the Hospital Podcast several years back, there aren't many DnB tracks that I can listen to beginning to end out of the mix.
Ku Nai - Never
Heavy piano business with a half step vibe, reminiscent of Marc OFX:
Erbman - Blackboard Jungle Part 2
Calibre - Suddenly
Amazing sparse stripped down track with a more up-beat atmosphere than usual
Alix Perez - Inferno
Things were getting a bit hot in the wetsuit as we plunged deep into the inferno...
ST Files - EightSix
Rollin through more 07/08 sounds with a series of quickfire mixes bringing back memories of Soul:r, mixing for my supper at The Castle climbing wall and enjoying what was a new departure for DnB at the time, deep minimal ragga sounds.
Breakage & Rohan - Ruff Dub
Prompting some uncharacteristic expletives from me, this one had to be pulled back and great that Dr H wangled it back in for the finale to his session :)
Notes from Nicky: I forgive you for the expletives, to be honest, I f"""ing love it as well 😆
Rizzle - Essence
Free DL on Overview Music:
Kusp - Unconditional
Great "Twinkle" track, my improvised sub-genre name for tracks that have deep low ends while also a glittery sprinkling of top end interest. Free DL on Context Audio:
Part 2 Tomorrow
But this isn't the full story as after DJ Pi finished the second segment, it was back down to the South East UK for another hour and a bit of liquid Drum & Bass mixing from yours truly, we'll have that uploaded tomorrow along with the full track list too! For now, enjoy hearing the tunes and make sure to follow and support the artists showcased in the show!
