A brief walk through this amazing Afrobeat cover of the song 'bellyache'. So this is not an original song the reference link can be found at the bottom of this post.
I used Ableton live 10, my favourite digital audio workstation with in built instrument and a variety of African percussion from a third party. One interesting feature in Ableton is its ability to edit and process videos just as much as audios, so I dragged the video into an audio track in the session view and boom the video surfaced, I applied filter effect to cut out the low end frequency to about 350hz, this is to reduce/remove the kick in the video, then, I boosted the high ends at around 7000hz.
I made some bars of conventional Afrobeat percussions and drum which I added, I used an African shaker loop to fill in the spaces between the rimshot sequence.
I added Electric piano from Ableton instruments, the song is on key G. The chord progression was Cmaj, Amin,Emin, D/G. The bridge 'maybe it's in the gutter' had a fuji/JuJu syncopation made up of brass, electric piano and bass. The song panned out with sounds of bell and high suspense strings.
Enough said already, please watch and enjoy
