This week let's check out some classic old school hip hop Christmas themed songs!
Kurtis blow
"Christmas Rappin"
1979
This is actually one of the first rap singles, and i believe Kurtis Blow's first. It has a "very slightly different bass line then rappers delight" but it's interesting to hear those early rap records that still used studio bands playing disco/funk/go go style before the drum machines took over!
Sweet Tee
"Let the Jingle Bells Rock"
1988
Sweet Tee only had one album, but she has a great voice and this song Is one of the better Christmas hip hop ones, in my opinion. It's got that super funky production
Hard Call X Mas
"My Christmas Bells"
1987
Now this ridiculous song is a Christmas parody of LL Cool J's song "rock the bells." I know nothing about the performers just that its from the "b boy Santa" compilation record from 1987. It's pretty hilarious.
Twilight 22
"In the Spirit"
1983
Twilight 22 has one of the all time best hip hop electro songs (electric kingdom) and im sure they just put a Christmas song together because, why not i guess? The world needed more electro hip hop Christmas songs in 1983. Pretty sure this group or artist just dropped off the face of the earth after their first record...
Treacherous Three
"Santa's Rap"
1984
Here i included the original song and the clip with the song from the movie beat street. Had to include this early classic... how many other Christmas rap songs were there in the early/ mid 80s where they cursed like this?
I hope you liked my post. Happy holidays to all!
