Where to go after last week? I, like others, have plenty of songs to share in for #threesongtuesday, as inspired by . I'll be the first to admit; I grew up on oldies FM radio and vinyls, so I probably don't keep up too much with as much modern music as I like. That's ok, though, as I can now find others posting newer music to this thread to discover. In the meantime, I'm going back in time on this one again...
13th Floor Elevators - You're Gonna Miss Me
Last week I started with Texas rock legend Buddy Holly; this week I'm keeping it Texas, and going with Roky and the 13th Floor Elevators. I think I knew about this before High Fidelity, but maybe not. I do now I first came into possession of this fantastic song courtesy of a CD of the film's soundtrack. Roky (and his life) are a rabbit hole in and of itself; for those curious, definitely take a look. This song represents the best of acid / garage rock from that time period. You can never go wrong with the song when you are standing at a Touch Tunes at your local watering hole...
The Blue Rondos - Little Baby
I went through a bit of a Joe Meek phase a few years back when I heard his The Bublight; I'll save that track for later. Subsequent to my I Hear a New World discovery, I bought a best of CD set. On it, I found this gem. You can't find much about this group online, but they sound very Roy Orbison/Holly. Plus it has the rocking Farfisa on the background...I love that sound. Not bad for a 1964 London group!
Olivia Tremor Control - Beneath the Climb
Last but not least was this little gem I found years ago when I bought the above CD at Best Buy. The only reason I thought of it was because of that intro with the electric milk jug on You're Gonna Miss Me. Right around the 45 second mark, you can hear that little 13th Floor influence in the background. It always stood out to me when I played this one as something that Roky would have appreciated...hey, I at least appreciated the reference.
That's it for this week. Let me know what you think, or what you already knew, or what doesn't sound good to you. More to come next week as I scour the brain's databases for those random songs I enjoyed so many times before. And, of course, please check out 's post if interested in joining the fun.
