Well, thanks to 's consistent posts, I had to join the fun. After thinking about songs for the past weekend engagement post, tons of songs flooded into my brain. With so many different options and loves, I thought it would be fun to share three songs each week of what I'm currently listening to. It's all over the place, week over week, so be prepared.
I mean, you've been warned.
First up on this week's playlist for me is...
Buddy Holly's Slippin' and Sliding'
Ok, some background on this one. It's originally a Little Richard song. There is also a more up-tempo version of this song that Holly put together. Lennon even covered it in the 1970's., However, this version is the one for me. I once read a Jason Pierce interview (he of Spacemen 3 and Spiritualized fame...) where he said this song is the most "perfect piece of psychedelic music...ever". I might have to agree with that...maybe you might too after reading it. It's a great little piece of Americana, drugged out, long before America was "too drugged out."
Speaking of 80's drugged out acid rock (English style, that is)...
Spacemen 3's So Hot
There is an excellent Spiritualized version, but let's keep it simple today and go back to the boy's roots...
I have always been a Spacemen 3 fan; I can't listen to all of it, but most of I appreciate. You'll see more in the future, too.
This song is bare bones and simple enough. I do appreciate a good, simple Spacemen 3 song, too...
Last, but not least for this week, it's time for something more upbeat...
Deerhunter's Like New
Well, I think it sounds upbeat, anyway. I don't know if Buddy and the Spacemen influenced Deerhunter, but I'm 99% certain both did. This song always reminded me of a late October fall day; lots of blustery noises, a bit shoegaze, and wonderful chords. I think so, at the very least. I haven't kept up with Deerhunter, but there first few albums were brilliant.
So there you have it! My first entry into Three Song Tuesday...I hope you enjoyed it, and I'm looking forward to adding more in the future. Let me know what you think!
