It's been a bit since I've contributed to and his #threetunetuesday. I keep meaning to do a deep dive into my vinyl collection. The thought is to take a vinyl I own, find three tracks in sequence to share, and include photos of the album. Easy enough, right? Well, I always find myself here on Tuesday thinking about it...yet never doing it. So I thought I'd throw three songs I put together on a thread last night with the group. And...guess what started it?
The Beatles : Tomorrow Never Knows (Take 1)
Well, this song honestly made me think to share this week. In advance of the remastered Revolver set due out later this month, Apple released this song this past weekend. What a treat!
Most reviews about Revolver go something like this...the Beatles released this album in August of 1966. The world had no idea what it was listening to, and the music industry has been trying to keep up with this record's sound for the past (almost) 60 years. Well, I tend to agree, as the album is my favorite of all time. This track is Lennon's first take. Recorded all the way back in 1966, you can hear the drone noise, the sample, the drum beat...all of it set to the Book of the Dead. It's something else, especially with headphones on.
Spacemen 3 : Transparent Radiation
Oh yeah...a Red Krayola track fron the 1960's covered by the Spacemen. This one is too filled with drone noises, orchestral scores, and Sonic Boom/J Spaceman's drugged-out harmonies. I remember finding this one at a used CD store way back when. The song has never left the brain.
Panda Bear and Sonic Boom : Danger
Speaking of Sonic Boom...this one popped up one day on my Google stream. I had no idea Panda Bear and Sonic put an album together. Panda Bear of Animal Collective (whose album Merriweather Post Pavilion sounds like a modern Revolver beneath all the noise...) and of course Sonic Boom of Spacemen put together a dreamy little song here. The whole album is actually quite enjoyable; I went with this one as it sort of tied together this thread of songs.
Next week...hopefully a vinyl share for #ttt !
