This week's #threetunetuesday features a progression of sorts. Inspired by , this set of songs focuses on English space rock. The progression involves the two Spacemen above.,,Pete Kember and Jason Pierce, founders of the band Spacemen 3. I've long been a fan of the two, and though they apparently dislike one another immensely at this point in their careers, I still listen to their work quite a bit. Think of "drugged out" space rock/early shoegaze/Texas acid rock. No one knew them years ago, but fortunately, their influence is more recognized in the 21st century. I actually own a few vinyls they both put out; both collectively and separately. I love it!
Spacemen 3 : Honey
The first offering is called Honey. It's tucked away on a minor release they had, and it's an epic Spacemen 3 in its best shape and form. Space rock...dream rock...increasing energy. It's a classic.
Spectrum and Sonic Boom : California Lullaby
When the group broke up, Kember aka Sonic Boom went on to form a group called Spectrum. I had a chance to see Kember and company in Santa Cruz years ago, but my flight was cancelled due to freezing rain/weather. Maybe someday I'll be able to see his work in person, but this will do in the meantime (as will much of his other catalog).
Spiritualized: Step into the Breeze
Last but not least is a track from Pierce's Spiritualized. You can hear the style differences at this point, but both are amazing (in my personal opinion of course)! More dream pop with strings and electric, bombastic guitars. What can you do? It's Spacemen 3...if you get into them, you can't stop!
Thanks for listening to my three tracks this week for #TTT. As always, drop a link below! I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts!
