I'm following ' s lead this week, and taking a trip down memory lane. You see, people who are old like me (I'm 45, after all), didn't have things like Spotify or Apple Tunes to discover new music. No...for the most part, we had the radio. Or we had MTV when lucky and the station played music vidoes. Or, as you'll soon see, we had TV commercials to discover new music.
One company that helped me discovery new music was Volkswagen. So for this week's #threetunetuesday / #TTT post, I'm sharing some classic tracks I discovered courtesy of the Volkswagen.
Nick Drake : Pink Moon
Nick Drake's Pink Moon was the first Volkswagen ad where I took notice of the soundtrack. I hadn't heard of Nick Drake before as he wasn't a Van Morrison or a Bob Dylan on FM radio. I did like the song, and still do to the day. The whole album is very somber (but good!). Highly recommended, if for whatever reason you've never heard of him before. Another one who left this realm far too early...
Spiritualized : Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space
Oh boy, here we go again...Spiritualized. This is actually THE song that helped me discover the whole Spacemen 3 / Spectrum / Spacemen 3 thing. The song on the ad blew me away; it was like listening to something entirely new, sonically and musically. I remember my +75 year old grandma once hearing it too while my brother and I were watching television, and she was like "well, that is a pretty song." You know it is grandma (and we miss you, too...)
Primal Scream : Autobahn 66
Last but not least was this Primal Scream gem that came out of nowhere one day on the TV. I liked Primal Scream, I liked Kraftwerk, but I had no idea that group made this song. Listening to it yesterday while thinking of songs to include on this post...it still sounds as refreshing and invigorating to me as the day I first heard it. It's a bit long at +6 minutes, but for me, the times flies by fast. Definitely one if you happen to have at least a passing interest in Kraftwerk...
So there it is. Another #threetunetuesday in the book! As always, drop a line below if you can with any thoughts! Until next Tuesday, be seeing you.
