Hello music lovers. It's me, , with some Three Tune Tuesday post after a while, although I've been sharing other music content like the past concerts that I have been to. Well, I just came home after watching A Skylit Drive concert today and still feel the dopamine rush, which is maybe preventing me from putting my eyes to rest. So instead of staring at the ceiling, I decided to make a short post, but I still need time to process everything that happened today, so it might take a while before I can make a detailed post about my experience, not to mention, I will also watch Saosin next this coming Thursday. So, for now, I just wanna share about my top 3 picks among their setlist.
All It Takes For Your Dreams To Come True - A Skylit Drive
This is the first song that the band sings. Can't believe that this song is already 17 years old, because they sing it with the same energy from those early years, especially Michael Jagmin for his distinct high-pitched vocal style. Of course, live performances sound different from studio recordings that we hear in music videos, but the way they sing it, I really feel that I return to my teenage years.
Wires...And The Concept Of Breathing - A Skylit Drive
Comes from their second album with the same title, this song is just one of my all-time favorites from all their songs, and why I fell in love with the band, so I was really glad when it turned out that it was included in their setlist. Those raw and energetic characteristics of the song were still there, just blended well with the melodic hooks of the song, and the aggressive screaming by Joey Galligan really helps to convey the deep emotional turmoil of the song.
Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) [Journey Cover] - A Skylit Drive
And for my third pick, I go for their encore song, Separate Ways (Worlds Apart), which is a Journey cover song, part of the Punk Goes Classic Rock album. I'm not really fond of listening to cover songs, because most of the time, I prefer to listen to the original. But in their cover, they did not just copy the song, but also brought their own identity to it, and that identity is still felt very distinctively throughout the song.
And that was it for now. Overall, I really do enjoy the concert, and as I check on their setlist, I learned that they actually play 15 songs in total, which is just insane, since they only played 10 songs when they played in Hammersonic Festival in Indonesia, which is a far bigger music event than what we had here in PH, but they still played it very energetically, and full of showmanship. As my friend says, the best concerts does not always need big arenas.
See you until next time!
