Here is a cigar box guitar theme for #threetunetuesday by
I said this would be a cigar box guitar themed post but technically cigar box guitars can be made out of oil cans too lol. Here's Justin Johnson covering the Beetles or as I call them the beat less. This guy puts on a concert/festival every year at the roadhouse in St. Louis where he plays people's home made cigar box guitars. I try and make it there every year to see the strange guitar creations ranging from standard cigar box guitars to one made from a giant fishing lure and even one made out of a bed pan lol. Justin Johnson is the guy responsible for sending me down a CBG rabbit hole.
After playing quite a few cbgs and finding their quality a bit too janky I decided to look for a master builder to make one for me. I ran across this Russian guy that goes by Captain Nemoff and had him build me one as he had good ratings on all the cbg forums. Here he is playing the guitar he built for me. Its made from a Perdomo cigar box with a sound hole carved in it for acoustic projection. It also mimicks a 12 string with double course strings. The neck build was perfect for both slide and fret playing.
Here's a bluesy song I made on this Russian cigar box guitar. The simple three note open tuning lets you improvise easily and just let the riffs take you wherever they may lead as opposed to trying to keep track of scales and notes. Cigar box guiyars are great fun, perhaps one day I'll take a stab at creating one myself. I have to figure out a strange thing to turn into the body of the guitar. I've seen everything from an old NES nintendo to an actual alligator skull. Maybe I'll go the dogbone resonator route where you use a dog food bowl under the string bridge to get a slightly brighter string projection.
That's all for now, thanks for looking/listening :-)
