Katy Perry. Who doesn't know her. People have been loving her songs for so many years now. I don't follow Katy Perry's musical career although I know and love a couple of her songs. Weeks before New Year, I was thinking of a song to play on my Kalimba instrument and her song Firework came to my mind. I can play it one tone at a time but I want to learn how to play it with a combination of 2 or more tones before I record it. Disclaimer: I am not familiar with the technical terms on music so please excuse the terms I used to explain it. Lol.
Upon playing Firework I suddenly felt like I was hit by the nostalgia train when more of her songs popped up in my head. Hot N Cold, Teenage Dream, California Gurls, and Roar. I tried playing the songs too on the kalimba.
Fast forward to three weeks ago, I finally searched Katy on Youtube to watch her old music videos. When I finished watching the videos I want, I went on and scanned a few of her recent videos. Since we're in a pandemic, the title of her song "Not The End of The World" got my attention.
I clicked it and I can't stop replaying it.
I love the song in a heartbeat because aside from its beautiful melody, the lyrics talks about being brave and looking at the good in every bad or difficult situation.
"The fortune teller told me the power's in your mind, you might see a cliff but I see a way to fly."
This part is favorite and motivates me a lot. She's right. It's all in the mind. If you conditioned yourself to be strong and see the opportunity instead of lingering on the negative, you will win over whatever life throws at you.
The song was released a month ago and is part of her latest album "Smile". I also discovered that she had recently given birth and named her daughter Daisy Dove, which leads us to the next song I love.
Daisies.
Daisies talks about not being swayed by other people's opinions and proving them wrong that you can make your dreams come true. I love this song because I can relate to it so much. There's another music video of this song which look like a maternity videography of her but I chose to share the animated music video because the animation is just very amazing. I wish I can do an animation as good as this.
On the other hand, I found a live performance of Daisies and it super cool because it was similar with the animated music video with Katy herself instead of an animated character. The graphic effect looked real and I went confused for a moment because I thought she was really pushed above the ceiling. I'm not sure if this effect is what they call projection mapping.
While some artists go on hiatus when they get pregnant, Katy Perry, on the other hand, continued making the album and performing. Commendable but also made me worried while seeing her moving around and belting high notes. Though I realized I shouldn't get worried because she definitely had guidance and permission from her doctor.
Anyway, here's another awesome video, a medley of her songs Never Really Over, Not The End of The World, and Roar. Again, the effects used is topnotch and I just love how each song transitioned to the other.
Katy had already given birth when this was shot. The bump is a postpartum belly but never mind that. Her clothes looked very fancy and perfect on her. This was also the first time I saw her having a very long hair. Hair extensions maybe.
And fast forward again to two weeks ago, I searched Lady Gaga singing the national anthem inauguration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris but I was also surprised to see Katy Perry on the searches. Of course, I click Katy's video first and I just kept getting goosebumps all throughout the video. It was indeed the perfect song for that moment.
I've only know and liked a couple of songs of Katy Perry but her Smile album sounds good and empowering. I read some comments from fans that she had depression in the past and she probably made this album to celebrate her triumph over it. Smile isn't getting that much popularity unlike her other albums but I don't mind. Worth isn't measured in popularity.
If you wish to listen to the rest of the songs from her album Smile, you can check the preview below from Spotify.
Recently, I was feeling low and some of Katy Perry's songs helped me feel better. It is only recently that I listened closely to the lyrics of her songs and I realized how empowering and magical they are that's why I began to appreciate her more.
Thank you, Katy! ❤️
