On March 30, 1990 a new movie was released by the name of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles". Based on the cartoons of the 1980's, this movie turned into one of the biggest hits of the year. I remember it being a good flick, I'll have to find it on streaming here sometime. It grossed over $200 million on a budget of only $13 million, not too bad a return! Movie making has always been a risky business, even more so today... but the didn't do too bad!
In conjunction with the movie, not wanting to lose out on any profits, a line of new TMNT toys were produced known as the Giants. Why Giants? They were 13 inches (33 cm) tall and fully posable. They were an instant hit and kids loved them because of their size, it made them more fun to fight the bad guys. Today you can get a set of the originals in used condition for around $200, however, if you want mint in box they tend to run around $200 each if you can find them. These have become expensive collectibles!

Here's a video I found of an in depth look at the Giants:
Because it's Friday I am going to be doing a Nineties Friday post. It's an event started by , and is a day you can share just about anything from the 1990's. He's also adapted it to be Four Tune Friday as well, so if you prefer that angle you can feel free! There are no prizes, just pure fun!
Now for some music from the 1990's!
Foo Fighters
I know I share these guys a lot, they are one of my favorites from the 1990's. This legendary band from Seattle, Washington formed after the death of Kurt Cobain ended the band Nirvana. Drummer Dave Grohl picked up the pieces and made his own band and if sure worked out well for him! This comes off their album The Colour and the Shape from 1997, and the song is "Everlong" performed live:
Quiet Riot
I bet you didn't see this one coming! Although Quiet Riot is often thought of as a band from the 1980's, they did release some work in the 90's and beyond. In 1997 they did a cover of the AC/DC classic "Highway to Hell", although the first time I heard it was only a few days ago. They did a great a job on this cover, enjoy this one, it's good!
And just an interesting fact, the band continues to tour although it has none of the original band members today.
The Offspring
Another of my favorite bands from the decade, as they were from Garden Grove, California. That's in Orange county not far from where I live! Their breakout album was Smash is 1994 that had multiple hits, one of them being "Self Esteem":
Olga Tanon
I lived most of the 1990's living in Spanish speaking countries, so most of the music I heard was in Spanish. So I often toss in a tune that was popular back in the day. Today I'm going with Puerto Rican singer Olga Tanon. She is known for her merengue and latin pop and has been popular since the early 1990's. Today's song comes from 1996 and is called "Me Subes, Me Bajas, Me Subes":
That will wrap up this #ninetiesfriday ! I hope you enjoyed the post and it had some good memories in there for you all. It sure was fun to put together! Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below, and thank you for all of your support. It really means a lot to me! Have a great weekend everyone!
