Throughout the 1990's I spent most of my life living in South America and Puerto Rico. Having grown up in the US it was a real eye opener as to just how well off I had things while living in a first world country. People lived any way they could, and some of the poorer people in the more remote areas lived in homes with dirt floors. But it was amazing just how clean and neat they kept their homes even though they weren't rich. They were often some of the kindest people I ever met.
While living in the Spanish speaking parts of the world I learned the language and fell in love with the music as well. I still listen to it most every day, of course I have some favorite artists just like in English. One of my personal favorites will always be Shakira. She not only is a performer but writes her own material for the most part, which is rare among female singers in Latin America. Plus, in her early work she liked to show her penchant for hard rock as she is a huge rock n' roll fan.
So today for Three Tune Tuesday I decided to share some Shakira songs where she shares that harder edge. But first off I want to say thank you to for starting and continuing to sponsor this fun weekly event where you can share three songs that you enjoy. One lucky participant will win some HSBI units, you can't have too many of those! So if you don't already participate feel free to jump in, just use the tag #ttt or #threetunetuesday and it's never a bad idea to do a shoutout to
.
Let's get started!
Back In Black
Shakira has always been a big AC/DC fan and periodically will perform this cover from the legendary band. Her version may start a little slow, but once the guitar kicks in she proves she can rock! And she always looks really good doing it. Here's "Back In Black":
Pies Descalzos, Sueños Blancos
Shakira's third album Pies Descalzos (Bare Feet) was released 1995 and quickly catapulted her to international fame all over the Spanish speaking world. It also set her up for her eventual move into English language music as well. One song on the album that really shows here love of rock n' roll was "Pies Descalzos, Sueños Blancos", this live recording comes from her anniversary edition. You can she see is much older but still able to put on a great show!
Inevitable
Shakira released her fourth album Dónde Están los Ladrones? (Where Are The Thieves) in 1998 and it quickly pushed her to new levels of fame with multiple hit songs. It also cemented her contract to produce Laundry Service, her first English album. One of the songs that really shows her hard edge is "Inevitable" (Inevitable):
That will wrap up this Three Tune Tuesday, it's always fun to throw together something a little different. I do hope you enjoyed it and please feel free to leave any questions or comments below. Thanks for all of your support, it's greatly appreciated! Have a great day everyone!
