Probably one of the best ever rock voices
Well - everyone my age knows him as lead singer of Led Zeppelin - probably one of the first true Rock voices on the planet. You will all remember him on Led Zeppelin songs - he became a role model of many AOR / hard rock / metal singers later in the 70ies/80ies/90ies and I personally see my fav Lou Gramm as one of them that even had a better voice (biased here as the top Foreigner fan on Earth)
But even after Led Zeppelin his rare solo projects got me - Big Log - an aweseome song with slide guitar and Robert voice is a track I often listen to at home to relax.
Robert Plant - some stats
Robert is living in England end enjoys life I recently learned - now busy with gardening. But back to his story - Robert Anthony Plant (born 20 August 1948) is an English singer and songwriter. With Led Zeppelin he was not only lead singer but also lyricist since their founding in 1968, the band broke up in 1980 when Rob started his solo career. Robert was inducted into Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and is seen as of the greatest singers in rock music, a true personality with powerful performances on and off stage.
He grew up at his birth region West Midlands, after scholl wastrained as a chartered accountant and left home at the age of 16 for performing / singing in dodgy local blues bands - one band was "Band of Joy" where he met with John Bonham already. Later in 1968 he was invited by guys called Peter Grant and Jimmy Page to join the Yardbirds. Once Robert joined they re-created the band and the new version of The Yardbirds changed their name to Led Zeppelin - the rest is history (if you are old enough :-)!).
Personality as a singer
As I outlined already Robert is charismatic as frontman and in addition equipped with this aweseome rock voice - people comapred him to Mick Jagger, Jim Morrison - to me he is better in ass apsects but that is a personal thing.
After Led Zeppelin dissolved he continued to perform and record continuously on a variety of solo and group projects, all pretty succesful - he founded a new band "The Honeydrippers" and realized a chart breaker with a remake of "Sea of Love" - not a typical rock song but shows his broad variety:
In the 1990s, another reunion project with Jimmy Page started, result: Grammy award!
Listen to this:
Much more followed (including another Grammy award) - Robert was not lazy on the couch :-)!
In 1995, Led Zeppelin were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and he was called by many new source as the best or one of the best rock voices in history.
I hope anyone here even remmebers him, recognized him - a legend!
