A warm greeting to everyone in this wonderful #Music community. I'm delighted to perform "Detour Ahead" on my trumpet, a classic jazz song from the 1940s composed by Herb Ellis, John Frigo, and Lou Carter. The lyrics compare a road trip to a romantic relationship. On our journey, we may encounter difficulties, obstacles, and even failure. We may lose a battle, but never the war. The lyrics are very common in post-war American culture. The message of this piece is that it's best to recognize when something is wrong before it's too late. It most likely originated from a period of improvisation while they were playing together in a trio called The Soft Winds. I play this piece in the key of D major, and I love how its melody reflects emotional tension. It has fleeting modulations that reflect the nature of detours on a highway.

Tengo el agrado de interpretar con mi trompeta «Detour Ahead», una clásico del Jazz de los años 40 compuesto por Herb Ellis, John Frigo y Lou Carter. La letra de la canción compara un viaje de carretera con una relación amorosa. En nuestro viaje podemos encontrar dificultades, obstáculos, e incluso con el fracaso. Se puede perder una batalla, pero jamás la guerra. La letra es muy común de la cultura estadounidense de postguerra. La reflexión de esta pieza es que es mejor reconocer cuándo algo va mal antes de que sea demasiado tarde. Lo más seguro es que haya surgido de un tiempo de improvisación mientras tocaban juntos en un trío llamado The Soft Winds. Esta pieza la interpreto en la tonalidad de D mayor, y me encanta como su melodía refleja tensión emocional. Tiene unas modulaciones pasajeras que reflejan el carácter de los desvíos en una carretera.

I recently woke up excited to go to a meeting on a Sunday morning. I stood at the bus stop waiting for public transportation for three hours. Many buses passed, but none were going to my destination. Since the meeting was about to end, I decided against going and took a bus to a different place. Although I hadn't planned to take that bus, it was too easy to get to the unplanned destination. I don't know if not going was the best thing to do. I probably missed something good, or perhaps something bad. Maybe I insisted on going to that place and something unexpected happened. The meeting was very important, and because I wasn't there, many important things weren't done, including recording the event, receiving instruction, and spending time with some people. When we play a musical instrument, the melody doesn't always come out when or how we want. The important thing is to be patient and resilient. Enjoy this beautiful jazz standard!

Hace poco estaba me levante con mucho entusiasmo para ir a una reunión un domingo por la mañana. Estuve en la parada esperando el transporte publico por 3 horas. Pasaron muchos autobuses, pero ninguno iba a mi destino. Como ya estaba por culminar la reunión desistí de llegar al lugar y entonces tomé un autobús a otro destino. Aunque mi plan no era tomar ese autobús, fue demasiado sencillo llegar al destino no planificado. No se si fue lo mejor, no llegar. Probablemente me perdí de algo bueno, o quizás de algo malo. Puede que haya insistido en ir a ese lugar y fuera ocurrido algo que no esperaba. La reunión era muy importante, y como no estuve presente, se dejaron de hacer muchas cosas importantes, entre las cuales hacer un registro del evento, recibir instrucción y compartir con algunas personas. Cuando tocamos un instrumento musical, no siempre sale melodía cuando o como queremos. Lo importante es tomárselo con paciencia, y resiliencia. Que disfruten de este bonito estándar del Jazz.
