After a hard day's work, unwinding is definitely the next agenda on my schedule. In as much as I value my work and give my best to it daily, I also value Me.
I fully understand the benefits of being fit as an individual. One cannot give what one does not have, so also if I am not at my optimum best physically, emotionally and mentally, all other things will suffer.
Me-time is a very important part of my day, no matter how hectic the day's work has been. I incorporate my me-time into my 24-hour plans and abide by it religiously. Only on rare occasions do I falter in my schedules.
My profession also affords me with some weeks of vacation period, one I don't take lightly. I make plans to spend the holiday on revitalization and doing things that make me happy, after all, " if I don't take care of myself....who will?"
Saddled with chunks of responsibilities, it is highly essential that I take a step back and relax. This is not only to recover lost energy lost during work hours but it is also to unburden myself of every weight that I shoulder, even if it is just for a while. I get to lay back and not bother about a thing, other than what goes into my stomach, hehe.
** Favourite me-time activities**
One of the ways I unwind daily is to listen to good soul music. There's this affinity I have to music that seems to make me feel like all my stress is seeping away from within and I find myself feeling lighter deep down to my soul. Sometimes I listen to some music with my airpods, headset or an mp3 player, depending on the mood flow.
I also indulge in reading novels especially romantic novels. There's just something about lost and found love that relaxes the tension in my nerves. Probably it's because the authors are so vivid with their writing or that I have a very very imaginative mind or maybe both but reading these books helps me unwind and relax and in a world of my own away from life's pressures.
How could I forget to include food, not just any food but the one prepared with my hands. A burst of energy surges through my veins when I'm in the kitchen trying to whip up one delicacy or another. I feel invincible as I happily craft my magic for my stomach infrastructure. Plus the delightful aroma and taste of my food is better pain relief for my body.
During school breaks and holidays, I make a detailed plan of my itinary for the duration of the vacation. I could take trips to the park, zoo or the beach and have some fun. Other times I go for a swim or visit close friends and relatives.
One thing I also don't forget to do as well is to have enough sleep during the periods of my vacation. Sleeping helps my brain cells recharge snd recuperate. I also avoid spending much time on my phone to limit some distractions during this period of satisfying me.
All in all, the general idea is that I prioritize myself, even if it is just for a little while. As much as I give out to others, I also save some time and energy to take care of myself, so I don't end up breaking down and wrecked.
