Growing up, whenever we were making a trip as a family or if it were just me, my mum would always yell at me for packing very little. She would ask me if I even had my essentials in there, saying my bag was too small and that everyone else, even the boys, had bigger luggage than me. According to her, I don't pack stuff up like a girl.' I remember thar one time I had replied to her saying that maybe I was a boy in my former life. Haha. It's not my fault that I prefer to move light.
I spent the last Christmas holiday at my cousin's and when I arrived, she asked where the rest of my bags were. I told her there were no others, just the one in my hands. It was a small bag that I had packed, I will admit. She went on about how I was going to live on a few piece of clothing and the rest, saying she wouldn't lend me has, like it was even possible seeing that I am taller and bigger than ahe is. But I managed fine.
I think we've established that I pack really light. I only go for essentials. I figure out what activities I may do or places that I might visit at the location thar I am visiting before I put things together.
One year is a long time, but me bring me, I'd still pack as I always do, so the essentials I'd go with would be: two pairs of jeans, t-shirts( about five of them in basic colors), five gowns, five skirts, three pairs of sleepwear, some pieces of loubgewears, two weeks worth of underwear, two slippers, one sandal, one black shoe, my bath and wash supply, hair kit, my laptop, phone, chargers, cardigan,
These should serve me. Sometime in the year, I may feel the need to get something else, and I may just go thrift shopping. Aside from clothing, other essentials like toothpaste and toothbrush will have to be replaced, and I could always visit a local market for those. And a plus for me is that I wash my clothes every day and not pile dirty clothes up. That way, I don't run out of outfits to wear.

I always like staple pieces thar I can mix and pair together -versatile pieces. In this case, I have to consider the different weather conditions and pack both heavy and light clothing as well as the location that I am visiting. It's important, so I get to dress appropriately and not encounter difficulty in blending in the new environment.
Usually, everything I mentioned above would fit into one luggage. I hate the stress of moving with two or more bags. One is just convenient.
This is my simple, light practice when packing for a trip.
